It's October, and I'm finally getting the chance to read @michaelregina's The Sleepover! My Adamsville bookmark probably won't be getting much work as I fly through this creepy graphic novel.

I use the song "Prayer of the Refugee" by @riseagainst in my classroom as part of our practice with tone and figurative language, as well as for comparing to other texts about and by refugees. This year, a student gifted me a copy signed by lead singer Tim McIlrath. So cool!

Whenever I see this cover, the font, color, and "resident" in "president" immediately makes me think of this. I like to believe it is not coincidental.

My daughter chose to read this book tonight, and I guess because the debate was fresh in my mind I finally made the connection. A couple quick changes on the cover (leave the orange color and small hands, of course) and this is a presidential biography. #Debates2020 #mrcontrary

Just finished. Historical fiction adventure for middle grades about a boy tracking down his wrongfully-sold horse, which is the only family he has left.

When meeting authors, I keep blank paper with me and ask if they would be able to write a message to my readers and writers. Dozens have said yes and produced amazing quotes or art. Here's one from Ben Hatke that I had around. I switch the posters out every couple of weeks.

This has worked great for my 6th-grade readers so far. Many picked something other than what I would have chosen based on our previous conversations. Thanks for the idea, @pernilleripp!
