This new research should be of interest far beyond the Albania case study.
It is about the dynamics of covert action conducted between partners. Too often we think of such statecraft through a single-state prism, but this misses core drivers/shapers of covert action
Our new article on US-UK covert action in Albania is now out in @IntHistReview
It's one of the most famous case studies ever, but we argue historians have it upside down:
It wasn't about liberation. Heck, it was barely even about Albania...

Very happy to share my article on ‘Unmasking the Term Dual Use in EU Spyware Export Control’.
I argue that dual use is conceptually flawed, deceptive, and empty when applied to #spyware. This undermines human rights safeguards.

Wednesday 4 October the indefatigable @JaberBaker1 will be in London to speak about his personal and professional journey into the #SyrianGulag. No other researcher has delved into Assad's murderous prison system as thoroughly and systematically as he did.
Next week at The Frontline Club @newlinesmag will sit down with Jaber Baker to discuss his book Syrian Gulag @BloomsburyBooks. Tickets are limited: eventbrite.com/e/surviving-a…

It's the 1980s, and Bruno Breguet is one of international super-terrorist Carlos the Jackal's most trusted operatives. But in a paranoid world of violence and subterfuge, what is loyalty really worth? LISTEN NOW spyscape.com/podcasts #daisyridley @Eselskind
