When working on the Katie's Room/Katrooms game for her b'day I was working 14 hours a day for weeks. The vision of the finished game and how people would react pulled me along, and in the end I was richly rewarded.

Hello, Video game and Toy advertiser here, you would need to spend up to half a million dollars to reach the 33 million concurrent high interest users you get access to on steam, a fee you only pay if you actually get that user.
And that's to hit them once, and it generally takes 3-4 times to get people to purchase things because we are busy, distracted and get paid a couple times a month on specific days. You are entering a walled garden where everyone is there to play and buy games.
I understand it sucks and you feel like you're taxed, but amount of money you'll spend hitting people that don't even like games (and actively complain about them) due to the way advertising algos often work would definitely cost 99% of game developers more than that steam tax.
If you are able to spend less than half a million dollars and get enough people to download yet another vibe coded steam platform by all means, but it's unlikely. And yes, people who are on steam do still paid advertising, but if you weren't automatically niching down and getting interested parties that are boosting your credibility on steam, you'd probably spend 1.5m dollars.
It's really sad that the games industry is drained by a 30% tax on gross revenue.
You could vibe code a Steam alternative in a week. Cloudflare egress is basically free.
The industry is in desperate need of a distribution platform that allows developers to keep their revenue.
Networks effects and the fanatic obsession with "muh Steam library" will make this very difficul.
But if devs could actually keep their earnings, we'd have a greater selection of better games and far more financial success stories.
AI has some huge problems. The biggest one is the trillions of dollars business idiots have bet on it being real intelligence. It's not, it's a vector database technology.
This leads into the 2nd problem: Trying to use these as a "Do Everything Machine" gives them ADHD.

Any artist can work with any color palette, when youre trying to find an artist, focus less on the colors they use and more on their rendering style, shapes, and proportions!
Otherwise you may skip out on the perfect artist!!

Most games are supposed to make you frustrated at some point
It's part of growing
Nothing compares to the satisfaction of getting through a tough level after being stuck on it for days...
If you can't handle frustration that's okay but don't blame it on the game 🥺

Sell prints if you want to make extra based on their popularity! Streamers tend to have very dedicated fanbases that will buy merchandise, and prints are easy.
(Simply mention you retain non-exclusive right to sell prints of your art if you want to CYA).
