Student survey but - hear me out - ask them to rate senior managements handling of semester one and Covid.
It's that time of year again, when universities run surveys where they ask students what they thought of their instructors. They use the results as "data" regarding teaching effectiveness. This is a completely unscientific and unjust practice and it should stop. A thread.

Now that aspiring anti-racist academics are learning they should cite BIPOC scholars, especially women, please note it’s not just WHO you cite but HOW you cite—are BIPOC authors regarded as theorists or just case studies demonstrating the validity of white theorists’ concepts? – at Los Angeles, CA

I want to take some time to make use of my professional training as a linguistic anthropologist and explain WHY this is such a good headline. 1/ slate.com/news-and-politics/…

This is astonishing. Hot on heels of Newsnight comes this. The government is now literally using our money to *pay* the Daily Mail to publish pro-government propaganda pieces about how well it is handling COVID-19. ‘Sponsored by The UK Government’

Trying to get proper thinking work done while the future of your sector shifts like quicksand, your friends are losing their jobs, and the design of your workload and position expectations are uncertain... hard.

Linguists - I'm trying to track down any current work on MLE/MUBE/UBE (whatever people are choosing to call it) in UK areas outside London. If you know of anything in progress (including PhD/MA and undergrad student work) please can you let me know? Thanks very much 👍🏽😊🙏🏽

I asked my boyfriend to edit the introduction of my thesis and he actually had the audacity to edit it and not just tell me it was excellent.
