Believing that geographical distance from Russia guarantees security is an illusion.
In an interview with the Irish Independent, FM @BudrysKestutis stressed that sustained support for Ukraine is essential to countering Russia’s aggression and safeguarding Europe’s security.

Russia has escalated again in the Black Sea, attacking a commercial vessel off Romania’s coast. One sailor was killed, others remain missing.
Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. Attacks on civilian shipping are attacks on freedom of navigation and the rules-based international order.
#Lithuania stands firm with #Romania. The answer must be clear: more pressure, tougher sanctions, and stronger investment in the security and resilience of the Eastern Flank of #NATO and the whole Europe.
Russia’s aggression must come at a higher cost.#

#Lithuania fully supports #Austria in its decision to expel Russian diplomats engaged in activities incompatible with the Vienna Convention.
Russian spies have no place in Europe. They pose a real threat to our security. We must continue showing Kremlin – not with words, but with actions – that their malign activities will not go unchecked and unpunished.

Always a warm and conversation with @Europarl_EN Secretary General Alessandro Chiocchetti about our cooperation during the Lithuanian EU Council Presidency. One of the key projects - common work on the Pan-European monument commemorating the victims of totalitarian regimes.

Lithuania, Spain and the Netherlands won an EU Twinning project to support Ukraine’s railway reform. Backed by €1.5 million in EU funding, the 30-month initiative will align 🇺🇦’s rail sector with 🇪🇺 standards and support its integration into the Trans-European Transport Network.

Shameful decision by the @WorldPentathlon to strip #Lithuania of its World Cup event for refusing to turn a blind eye to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. This sets a dangerous precedent and sends a fundamentally wrong message.
Lithuania’s position has been clear from day one: we will not help normalise the participation of representatives of aggressor states — Russia and Belarus — in international sport. Russia continues its brutal war against #Ukraine, while Belarus remains complicit in enabling that.
The EU must tighten restrictions on Russian and Belarusian athletes competing under national colours, expand visa bans and sanctions, and cut support for those enabling state-sponsored propaganda.
Lithuania will never normalise aggression. We will stand with Ukraine not only when it is convenient, but especially when it is not.

Within hours today, #Lithuania faced two serious security incidents. Overnight, a sabotage attempt targeting Starlink infrastructure near Vilnius was thwarted. Its purpose was clear: to undermine a capability critical to #Ukraine’s defence and civilian communications.
This morning, an unidentified UAV violated Lithuanian airspace, posing a risk to our citizens and their property.
Both incidents are a direct consequence of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and its wider repercussions for European security. Hybrid attacks, sabotage, and airspace incursions threaten critical infrastructure, spread fear, and seek to undermine European support for Ukraine.
Lithuania supports, and will continue to support Ukraine in exercising its inherent right of self-defence, in full accordance with Article 51 of the #UN Charter. We also urge Russia to immediately cease its aggression against Ukraine.
We remain vigilant. Attacks against our critical infrastructure will be investigated, exposed, and met with resolve. We stand with our Allies and with Ukraine.

In a phone call with @eucopresident António Costa, I stressed the need for the EU to focus on supporting Ukraine and phasing out Russian energy resources.
At the #EUCO this week, I expect a serious discussion on competitiveness and #MFF priorities. The EU’s eastern flank must get the attention it deserves!

It was a great honour to present #LT27EU priorities to the Committee of the Regions.
We will focus on defence and security, competitiveness and the new multiannual financial framework (MFF), EU enlargement, internal security and societal resilience, and social policy issues.

The Kremlin’s war against #Ukraine is sustained by powerful interests that continue to benefit from and support Russia’s aggression. When two influential Russian oligarchs were removed from the #EU sanctions list, it sent the wrong signal.
#Lithuania is taking action and will not look away. Today, we froze the assets of Mikhail Fridman and Alisher Usmanov under our national sanctions regime. Sanctions pressure on Russia and its war enablers must be strengthened and sustained.

Lithuania strongly condemns Russia’s latest attacks on Ukraine, including the strike in Zaporizhzhia. Deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are war crimes. We firmly #StandWithUkraine and support its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. 🇺🇦

As Russia continues its aggression against Ukraine and built a war economy, the EU is stepping up targeted sanctions to achieve peace and defend international law.
Targeting 1,569 companies and individuals, this is the biggest EU individual sanctions-listings package to date.

Today, by adopting legislation on the educational rights of indigenous peoples and national minorities, #Ukraine has delivered on its part and once again proved – not through rhetoric, but through real action – that it is a strong and reliable partner, ready to address what is important to its European partners and committed to resolving the issues at hand together.
Now is the right moment for Ukraine’s #EU partners to show the same level of resolve. As a sign of this, #Lithuania expects progress as early as tomorrow in opening negotiation Clusters 2 and 3 with 🇺🇦, and on Clusters 4 and 5 shortly thereafter, still in 2026.
Ukraine’s EU accession is a security guarantee for the EU just as for Ukraine, and we shall seek every opportunity to make it a reality, the faster, the better. No more moving targets! No more artificial delays!

If we want to make our Union stronger, more secure, and more competitive, we have to have an ambitious EU budget that is capable of financing all the challenges Europe faces. Thanks @FernandoSMEU for hosting Friends of Cohesion meeting.
This is not a time for Europe to lower its ambitions.

EU Foreign Ministers just adopted nearly 1,600 new sanctions listings targeting Russia’s military-industrial complex.
This is the single largest expansion of our sanctions list since Russia started its war.
Europe is again showing a united front.
More than half are connected to the production chain for ballistic missiles.
We are making it significantly harder, slower and more expensive for Russia to produce the weapons it uses to kill Ukrainians.
