Jesus didn't celebrate the coming destruction. He wept over it. youtube.com/shorts/LNIA4Y7yK… via @YouTube
The U.S. Army recently trained to prepare temporary burial sites for thousands of fallen soldiers in a major war.
This doesn't mean war is imminent. But it ought to make us think seriously about what we're preparing for.
Jesus wept over Jerusalem because it failed to recognize the things that make for peace (Luke 19:41–44).
Are we preparing harder for war than we're working for peace?

Matthew 24: The End of the World or the End of an Empire? youtu.be/t2braTgm8pc?si=_iNc… via @YouTube
For nearly 2,000 years, Matthew 24 has puzzled and frightened Christians. Wars, earthquakes, famines, and Jesus' warning that not one stone of the Temple would be left standing have often been interpreted as signs of the end of the world. But what if Jesus was warning His disciples about something much closer to home? In AD 70, Roman armies destroyed Jerusalem and its Temple. In this teaching, I explore the understanding that Jesus' words in Matthew 24 were primarily pointing toward that coming catastrophe rather than giving us a timetable for the end of the world. But if those events happened nearly 2,000 years ago, does Matthew 24 still have anything to say to us today? I believe it does. Jesus warned His followers to recognize the signs and flee when destruction approached. He understood what could happen when religious certainty, political ambition, and violent resistance collided with the power of Rome. And yet Jesus wept over Jerusalem. That matters because I don't believe Jesus was revealing a mean, vengeful God eager to destroy people. I believe He was revealing the God who is love, grieving over the destruction people were bringing upon themselves. And the warning reaches beyond ancient Jerusalem. Sometimes the things we've trusted in come crashing down. Sometimes our old understanding of God must be dismantled before we can see Him more clearly through Jesus Christ. Relationships can collapse. Religious systems can crumble. Even powerful nations and empires can fall under the weight of their own corruption, greed, and violence. In this 24-minute reflection, I also consider the historical cycles discussed in The Fourth Turning and ask whether Jesus' warnings can help us recognize destructive patterns in our own time. Matthew 24 isn't simply a passage to fear. It may be an invitation to recognize what happens when we build our lives, our religion, and our nations on something other than the way of Jesus. No matter who wins the election, Jesus is still Lord. youtube.com/shorts/3wHpU5G1u… via @YouTube
Every election, we're told it's the most important election of our lifetime. But as Christians, we need to remember something: Jesus is already King, and the tomb is still empty.
Our votes matter because our decisions affect real people. But our hope should never rest in a political party or candidate.
Vote thoughtfully. Love your neighbors. Remember that we are ambassadors for Christ.
No matter who wins the election, Jesus is still Lord.

Should Christians Celebrate Halloween? | What Does the Bible Really Say? youtu.be/BhpLRm6xXGE?si=aLkq… via @YouTube
Is Halloween evil? Should Christians celebrate it? And what about churches hosting Trunk or Treat? Every October, Christians wrestle with these questions. Some believe Halloween is harmless fun, while others believe Christians should avoid it entirely. But what does Scripture actually teach? In this episode of The Question Is..., we explore the surprising history of Halloween, from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain to the Christian observance of All Hallows' Eve. Then we turn to the apostle Paul, who faced an interesting question in the early church: Could Christians eat meat that had been offered to pagan gods? Paul's answer in 1 Corinthians 8–10 challenges us to think carefully about the difference between participating in idolatry and participating in ordinary cultural activities. We'll also consider what Jesus taught about the human heart, why Christian conscience matters, and whether Halloween might offer opportunities to practice hospitality and love our neighbors. And what about Trunk or Treat? Does moving costumes and candy into a church parking lot change their spiritual meaning? I'm not here to condemn Christians who celebrate Halloween or those who choose not to. I want us to examine Scripture, think carefully, and remember what Jesus actually called us to be. Because perhaps the most important question isn't whether Christians should celebrate Halloween. It's whether we've become so concerned about the darkness of one evening that we've forgotten Jesus called us to be light every day. The Question Is... — Honest Questions. Thoughtful Answers. Christians, Who Are You Voting to Represent You? youtu.be/2oV2S1LHDtY?si=qeB2… via @YouTube
Christians, Who Are You Voting to Represent You? When we vote for someone, we're choosing a person to represent us. But as followers of Jesus, have we stopped to consider what that representation says about our faith? Do we believe God favors one nation above all others? Do we imagine God as violent, angry, and eager to destroy our enemies? Or do we believe the God revealed in Jesus desires justice, mercy, compassion, and love for our neighbors? In this unscripted reflection, I wrestle with what it means to be a Christian in a divided political world. Jesus represents us before the Father, and Scripture calls us ambassadors for Christ. That responsibility doesn't disappear when politics enters the picture. I'm not here to tell you which candidate or party to support. I'm asking something deeper: Are we allowing the teachings of Jesus to shape how we think about leadership, power, and the way we treat one another? Don't let social media, television commentators, or political slogans do your thinking for you. Investigate the people seeking your vote. Examine their words, actions, and records. And remember that electing someone doesn't mean giving them a free pass. Representatives should be held accountable. Governments come and go. Political leaders rise and fall. But our responsibility to love our neighbors remains. The question isn't simply who represents us in government. It's how faithfully we represent Christ to the world.
