“Labor’s mid-year budget update included a record revision of government spending forecasts, which economists say calls into question the accuracy of the Treasurer Jim Chalmers’ budget papers and the quality of advice used by cabinet ministers to shape policy.
The December 2025 mid-year review included an unprecedented $47.8 billion in revisions as public servants upgraded the amount the government is expected to spend on the uptake of social support programs, such as home battery subsidies, as well as the impact of the student debt relief scheme.
The revisions figure is the highest in the 25 years of budget history tracked by the Parliamentary Budget Office.

Between Q1 2023 and Q1 2025, a staggering 82% of new jobs came from the non-market sector. Fuelled by the ballooning NDIS.
That means our “jobs growth” is being propped up by taxpayer funds.
Not wealth creation, but wealth redistribution.
The Australian economy is headed for a reckoning.
