Anybody who has followed Malia Cohen's time in public life will find this unsurprising.
She refused to debate me when I ran against her for California State Controller in 2022.
Both as a candidate and as Controller, she avoids the unscripted exchanges with the media that we as voters deserve to see.
She has a record of meager accomplishment that makes her undeserving of another term in office.
Californians deserve better.
I want to be clear: I would have preferred not to make this video. I am sharing it to explain my upcoming coverage of the race for California state controller, including my efforts to interview incumbent Malia Cohen (D-CA) and why my candidate interview coverage of this office will feature only her challenger, Herb Morgan (R-CA).
I would have preferred to produce a piece giving both candidates equal time. Those are journalistic values that guide me every day. After weeks of outreach and back-and-forth with Cohen’s team, a Zoom interview was scheduled, then abruptly canceled by her team. I was told she had no availability to reschedule before the election.
Her team said I could submit written questions for Cohen to answer in writing. I respectfully declined because I wanted voters to hear directly from her on camera, with the opportunity for follow-up questions.
I told her team multiple times I wanted to ensure voters heard her side, her priorities, and answer why she deserves a second term in office. I made every effort to make that happen.
Fairness is always my priority. My goal was to give both candidates the same opportunity to discuss their records, answer meaningful and tough questions, and speak directly to voters. I regret that I could not make that happen, but voters deserve transparency about the process.

👀Just out from @SFBART: There is a vacancy on BART's Audit Committee. I drove the creation of this committee starting in 2017, finally getting it going in 2020.🫢
The position requires a professional certification and expertise in government finance or audit disciplines.
Please share and help me find someone who will be a strong part of BART accountability and oversight for the future.

New from me: The US Army vet running a California surrogacy mill for Chinese couples to have “American” babies is a fellow at a top Republican think tank, received honors from the US Chamber of Commerce, and was accused of placing suspicious interns from China in sensitive government roles nypost.com/2026/09/21/us-new…

Astoundingly, $1,600 understates it.
That leaves out the training course of $300 to $500, the $400 psych exam, and the state's fees of $93 + livescan fees.
Reaching about $2,500 to exercise a constitutional right.
The @CityofSanJose thinks they can charge $1600 for concealed carry permits and violate their citizens’ 2A rights. Wrong! The @CivilRights Division @theJusticeDept will see you in court. 🤨

No Wiener really didn’t fight to save Muni and BART, he fought to tax the 💩 out of bay area’s retail businesses and working people to pay for another $17B of mismanagement of transit agencies with no oversight and accountability. He fought for more free flowing billions to the transit unions, PG&E and other transit vendors, who then can funnel some to him for his political career. But he won’t save transit. He’ll just move it a few more years down the road until they run out of money again. If Wiener really wanted to save transit, he would’ve forced them to cut their spending in exchange for the state bailout money. He would have forced them to renegotiate labor contracts to scale back operating costs and increase labor efficiency.

Constitutional rights aren’t for sale. Charging $1,600 to carry a firearm outside the home is unconscionable and unconstitutional. The @CivilRights Division is working hard to protect San Jose’s residents from Second Amendment violations!
