The government this week dressed up Help to Buy as “Your First Home” in sheep’s clothing – desperately hoping nobody would pick up on the similarities. The wolves on the Square Mile welcomed the news along with developers who watched their share price rise from the dark depths they have resided in the past year or so. Meanwhile the government was sending Estate Agents back to school and reining in the fees management companies can concoct for turning their computer on. At the same time, empty homes were given notice that councils could seize control if a resident wasn’t found within six months. Yet the building safety regulator continued to take their time, no matter the cost to leaseholders. This all came as house prices continued to tumble in southern regions while rents rose as stock levels dwindled in the capital. Welcome to another UK Property News Recap – 02.10.2026.

Sellers display clear signs of autumn bounce delusion in @rightmove ASKING price index. Wishful thinking in a 2026 market is doomed to fail. Rates and inflation are on the rise, prices are not. Despite the time to secure a buyer rising to 78 days in London and 64 days nationally and the average number of homes per estate agent also remaining historically high at 65. Sellers opted to ignore the warnings and increased the average asking price in September by 0.7%. Second steppers and those at the top of the ladder refusing to accept the market isn't what it once was. Some will be anticipating lower offers so have opted to hedge their bets but this could drastically backfire after lots of viewings and no offers. First impressions count. Blow it and watch the value of your home tumble hard.

You work, live, sleep and spend all your free time being constantly reminded of it. There is no way out. You are trapped. #claddingscandal
