Gold mining companies are starting to sell convertible preferreds to buy Bitcoin as Bitcoin DEMONETIZES Gold.

Gold is the poor man’s Bitcoin.
The last publicly-traded gold company to own assets in El Salvador was Pacific Rim Mining (PMU CN), acquired by OceanaGold in 2013 for pennies per share at a ~$20M valuation. After eight years of exploratory drilling, Pacific Rim applied for environmental permits in 2004 but never received approval, leading to an arbitration claim in 2009.
In 2016, the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) ruled in favor of El Salvador, ordering OceanaGold to pay $8M in legal costs. By 2017, El Salvador enacted a sweeping ban on all metal mining, forcing OceanaGold to wind down operations, close the El Dorado Foundation, and permanently exit the country by 2019.
While the El Dorado property has remained dormant since mining ceased in 1953, small-scale mining has occurred elsewhere in El Salvador over the decades. For large-scale gold mining to resume, significant reforms would be required: repealing the 2017 mining ban, committing to international arbitration for investment disputes, and creating a clear regulatory framework to attract foreign investment.
Given El Salvador's untapped mineral potential, these steps could make gold mining viable again at the El Dorado mine for the first time in over 70 years.
