I think we are cognitively inept and incapable of transforming this country as a people, and our leaders are no different. Our culture is generally feudal and anti-modernity so whatever type of governance we running regardless of party won’t work. What do you call people like me?

Not as simple. Parenting is overstated and environment is understated.
Doesn’t matter how “strong” you are, if you raise your kids in a liberal environment, chances are that they will be liberal.

3. Being too critical is negativity. Rather praise the effort/attempt and make suggestions for improvement.
4. Such advice may sound reasonable but it is misguided.
5. The WHOLE POINT of katanomics is to show how and why countries like Ghana DON'T LEARN from their stumbles/missteps and improve over time.
6. Tolerating shoddy design, planning, preparatory work, and analytical thinking SEEDS a culture. Thus, scrutiny never actually improve over time to make sure learning and correction happens at all.
7. Things/situations actually get worse because the laxity leads to neglect. Problems fester and failure worsens.
8. Changing this trend actually requires the reverse culture: be critical upfront and IF COURSE CORRECTION happens, then be supportive.
9. Make time and read this response I wrote to a prominent journalist about Ghana's doomed sugar factory at Komenda 12 years ago, and you will understand like never before why it is that we operate the way we do.

AN OPEN NOTE TO ALL RELEVANT AUTHORITIES IN GHANA
RE: UNCONTROLLED HAWKER ENCROACHMENT ON THE TROTRO LANE AT LAPAZ – AN URGENT ROAD SAFETY CONCERN
To the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Ministry of the Interior, Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Ghana Police Service, Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), National Road Safety Authority and all relevant authorities:
For years, hawkers at Lapaz have continued to occupy an increasingly large portion of the trotro lane, gradually turning a designated traffic space into a trading area. Successive governments have come and gone, yet this situation remains largely unaddressed.
The question is simple: How long will law enforcement look on while a serious road safety concern continues to develop? Must we wait for an avoidable accident, injuries or loss of lives before decisive action is taken?
The encroachment obstructs traffic, creates unnecessary congestion and exposes drivers, passengers, pedestrians and the hawkers themselves to danger.
As Ghana approaches its 70th Independence Anniversary in March 2027, it is time to demonstrate that discipline, respect for public spaces and enforcement of our laws are not merely things we talk about but values we practise.
We therefore call on the relevant authorities to:
Immediately address the encroachment on the trotro lane at Lapaz.
Activate and sustain law enforcement to restore the road to its intended purpose.
Ensure that hawkers are directed to appropriate designated trading spaces.
Introduce regular monitoring to prevent a recurrence of this situation.
This is not a campaign against people’s livelihoods. It is a call for responsible urban management, public safety and respect for the rights of all road users.
Ghana’s 70 years of independence should be an opportunity to restore discipline and order, not continue to normalise lawlessness in our public spaces.
Let us act before tragedy strikes. Lapaz deserves better, and road safety must not be negotiable.
THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!

Patriarchy existed to STOP OTHER MEN.
You really think men invented patriarchy to hold YOU down? You are too weak, too fragile, too irrelevant for men to waste invention on you.
Men invented patriarchy to protect their lands, food, money, resources, women and children FROM MEN.
500 years ago women didn't know what patriarchy was because it was SURVIVAL.
No police. No 911. No guns. No cell phones. If a rival tribe wanted you, they killed your men, raped you, took your land, took your food, and married you off to their sons or kept you as maids, servants, and sex slaves. That was history.
Patriarchy said: TOUCH HER AND YOU DIE. She belongs to this man, this family, this tribe. That was not oppression. That was a DEATH THREAT to other men to keep you safe.
Pregnancy = 9 months useless. Breastfeeding mother can't run, can't fight, baby cries and brings wolves.
Who hunted? MEN.
Who fought bears? MEN.
Who fought other men? MEN.
Who built houses in snow? MEN.
Who died in wars? 90% MEN.
If men left women alone to be "independent" in 1500, you would have gone EXTINCT in one winter. No food. No fire. No protection.
You are alive today because of patriarchy.
Modern luxury - AC, Uber Eats, iPhone, birth control, police made yall RETARDED and ungrateful. You think world was always safe.
You think animals don't hunt humans for food?
Who stopped all these? Patriarchy. Men who built walls, laws, armies, civilization so you can sit on TikTok with fake eyelashes and say "patriachy oppress me."
You are not oppressed. You are PROTECTED and too dumb to know it.
Without patriarchy, you wouldn't be CEOs. You'd be extinct or a sex slave to the strongest man in your own village that’s been conquered by the enemy.
Patriarchy is not why you are suffering. Patriarchy is why you are ALIVE to complain.

No one in their right senses bets against Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
But for sheer love of modelling, we are going to do just that! Well, only on one small matter: his prediction of 10 million unique subscribers buying into the IPO of his giant Lagos refinery, which was extended from closing today to 27th Oct.
Our unproven model suggests that it would be hard to get past 2.8 million unique, valid retail subscribers, with an 80% range of 2.1 - 4.4 million.
That would still be roughly twenty times Nigeria's previous retail record (MTN Nigeria's 126,720 in 2022), a little over half of Saudi Aramco's 5.06 million, but well under a third of the 10 million Dangote is expecting.
- Chance of matching Aramco (4.9m real people): about 5%.
- Chance of 10 million real, unique Nigerian and African subscribers: effectively nil in this model.
- Chance that a headline of 10 million or more is announced anyway: very high. (And this is where the fun part is!)
The IPO managers may have a trick up their sleeve (wink). The 10 million subscriber count can be reached by counting applications rather than people, or by counting pension contributors whose funds bought shares.
How do we know that? MTN did the latter in 2022, turning 126,720 retail buyers into "6.6 million *indirect* Nigerian shareholders".
Using that approach, it should be very easy for Dangote to break even the “10 million subscribers” threshold without breaking a sweat, just by adding "indirect".
The offer will almost certainly be oversubscribed by value, but that has little to do with mass participation.
Nigerian Pension funds (₦31.3 trillion in assets, with a regulatory waiver to buy), a $400 million pan-African SPV, and high-net-worth investors can fill ₦2.15 trillion on their own.
On valuation, the ₦525 IPO share price asks buyers to assume that todays war-inflated margins become normal. As many analysts have pointed out, the price needs a through-cycle gross refining margin of $28 - 34 a barrel (about $32 in the central case) on a refinery doubled to 1.4 million barrels a day.
The company's 2026 guidance is $24.2. At that guidance, fair value is closer to ₦310 - 450 a share, depending on discount rate and cost assumptions.
But none of this kinda math really matters when it comes to the IPO demand. The real issues are disposable income, national levels of financial literacy, trust in capital markets, and various hygiene factors.
The Aramco IPO was the world’s largest recent IPO on subscriber numbers. Unsurprisingly, it is the one Alhaji, ever the impossibility transcender, wants to beat. Unfortunately, Aramco is the wrong yardstick.
It is true that every Dangote IPO design choice has aimed at maximising headcount rather than capital (only 3.3% of the enlarged company is on offer). $4 minimum ticket, 55 approved e-channels, no upfront CSCS account, bonus shares and a promise of priority for small investors, etc. All this rewards breadth. But there are gaps.
Aramco's 5 million+ subscribers were produced by a rich state with a mass-retail market, bank credit and political pressure.
Dangote does have a populous market, but it is not captive enough. Nor is there any equivalent of Tadawul’s decades of mass retail trading in Nigeria.
Of the 6 million CSCS accounts in Nigeria, about 10% are active. Unlike in Saudi, Nigerian banks aren’t lending into the frenzy either.
At any rate, outside India, I struggle to find a retail play that has drawn more than 6 million people.
Yes, Safaricom hit 4.5% of the Kenyan adult population so 8% of Nigeria’s for Dangote shouldn’t be too crazy. Except that you are not considering the economic pressures in today’s Nigeria.
Moreover, “mass equity ownership” is built over years. One mega-offer however magical its issuer can only climb so much of the distance. Britain went from 3 million individual shareholders in 1979 to 8 million in 1987 through a string of privatisations.
Like I said at the very start, no sane person bets against the Alhaji, but he is asking the system to do several years of onboarding in four weeks. Hence my reckless wager. Wish me luck!
