(10/14) Importantly, genome-wide genetic correlation only told part of the story
Using MiXeR, we found extensive shared polygenic architecture with many disorders—even when overall genetic correlation was small or absent

New data reveal how migraine is more than just head pain:
-About 72% of patients reported pain beyond the head and neck
-More widespread pain was linked to higher pain intensity and less improvement over time
-Higher baseline fatigue was linked to worse symptoms at the start, but greater improvement in pain interference
-PTSD symptoms were not associated with outcomes in this group
-Overall improvements in pain and function were modest
Takeaway:
Assessment of chronic migraine should go beyond headache symptoms. Widespread pain and fatigue may shape how patients respond to treatment.

Ivan had a spinal cord injury three years ago that left him quadriplegic.
Last week, he ordered dinner from his favorite restaurant by himself.
This level of control used to need brain surgery. Not anymore.

📰🚨New paper led by IBG members @LydiaRader and Dan Gustavson reports findings that music engagement at age 12 predicts less alcohol/substance use 5–11 years later, with twin models pointing to protective shared environments rather than direct effects: doi.org/10.1037/adb0001152
New paper! 🎶🎸
• Do adolescents who engage in music use less substances later?
• Are the links direct effects or due to shared genetic/environmental influences?
• Is music constructive for youth at high genetic risk for substance use?

🔹 The GxEs were non-significant, but trending in expected directions. Hence, those at high genetic risk for substance use/sensation seeking did not seem to especially benefit from music.
