I commend @michaelgwaltz for exposing the Cuban dictatorship’s corruption, abuses, and lies before the world. Today at the United Nations, the regime put its tactics on full display: shouting down its critics, disrupting the proceedings, and attempting to intimidate those who dare to confront it with the truth. It is the same playbook the dictatorship has used against the Cuban people for decades. When it cannot defend the indefensible, it resorts to intimidation and censorship. They can shout all they want. Their days are numbered.
The Castro regime has profited at the expense of the Cuban people with luxury cars, expensive watches and a private island resort. As I shared this with the world, regime thugs rushed the stage to interrupt my speech. They can intimidate their own people in Cuba but think again about trying that nonsense in the United States of America.

"Do you understand who you're dealing with? This is America!" A heated exchange erupts after Cuba's foreign minister approaches the podium while U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz was speaking at the United Nations. "Back up, ambassador! This isn't Havana." Waltz repeatedly demands that Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla back away, accusing him of trying to intimidate the U.S. representative as the two exchange sharp words in front of the General Assembly. "This is America. This is not your communist dictatorship. You cannot silence me." The confrontation comes as the U.N. prepares to vote on a resolution calling for an end to the U.S. embargo on Cuba. See what triggered the shouting match and the vote coming next: foxnews.com/politics/shoutin…

🫓 Translation of Rubio’s message as Machado arrives: ▪️ MCM can be there because we run the show. ▪️ Rodríguez and Cabello can’t touch her. ▪️ We expect MCM to support the talks (or long waltz) between the chavista and opposition delegations, or at least not disrupt them.
The conditions allowing for the safe return of Ms. Machado to Venezuela is the direct result of the U.S. supported reconciliation talks which has already seen hundreds of political prisoners freed and hundreds of political opposition figures return from exile. The United States expects the freedoms of all sectors of Venezuelan politics to continue to be respected. Likewise, we expect all political actors to support these talks which represent the best chance Venezuela has had in thirty years to peacefully achieve not just a free and fair election but an enduring democracy.

STATEMENT | María Corina Machado’s Return to Venezuela Today, after nearly a year in exile and multiple attempts to return to her country that were blocked by the regime, María Corina Machado, leader of Venezuela’s democratic forces, is finally back in Venezuela. This moment represents a fundamental step in the political change process our country is undergoing. We wish to express our special gratitude to President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the United States Government for their commitment and leadership. The actions taken on January 3 opened a path that now makes it possible to move toward a democratic transition and the holding, in the near future, of free, fair, and verifiable presidential elections. We also wish to express our gratitude to the broad bipartisan coalition in the United States Congress and to allied governments that have supported the restoration of democracy in Venezuela. María Corina Machado’s return is intended to actively contribute to ensuring that this process moves forward in a stable, peaceful, and secure manner. She returns to stand alongside Venezuelans in their aspirations, demands, and legitimate yearnings for freedom, democracy, and justice, as well as to help build the political and institutional conditions necessary for a successful transition. She also returns to help build and promote a broad and inclusive national agreement that will enable the different sectors of Venezuelan society to develop a new, shared vision for the country. This agreement must transcend political differences, foster understanding and reconciliation, and lay the foundations for a common future grounded in democracy, respect for human rights, peaceful coexistence, and prosperity. Her presence in Venezuela also sends a message of confidence and commitment to our international allies. We seek to convey the certainty that Venezuela’s democratic forces are prepared to assume the responsibilities of this new stage, contribute to the country’s stability, and work in coordination with our partners to ensure an orderly and sustainable transition, with guarantees for all sectors of society. We are convinced that her return strengthens the prospects for consolidating political change, advancing toward the full restoration of democratic institutions, and ensuring that Venezuelans can finally freely choose their own future.
