We won’t make NHS dentistry fit for the 21st Century simply by building dental schools, tieing in graduates or importing a workforce from overseas.
We have to confront failed systems and underfunding, and make NHS dentistry a place dentists would choose to build a career.

I’m fighting to protect St Ann’s Hospice in Heald Green and our local GPs from the Govt’s National Insurance tax hike.
This unfair rise would pile financial pressure on vital health services like St Ann’s, which provides critical care to families across Cheadle and beyond. 💙

the 8-5 schedule is a nightmare for families, 5/7 days a week people are arriving home during the worst time of day for kids. everyone is exhausted, and then the adults can reconnect at 9 pm when they've had every last ounce of energy sapped out of them.

For anyone interested in learning more about the role of #psychology in oral health and #dentistry, a new textbook has been published 'Oral Health Psychology: Psychological Aspects Related to Dentistry'
The book is an international collaborative effort between dental professionals and psychologists who draw on scientific research as well as their personal experiences in clinical practice. It is both an educational resource and a resource to help dental professionals with complex challenges in their own clinical settings.
The book covers a wide range of areas from trauma-sensitive care, behaviour change, dental anxiety, blood-injury-injection phobia, child sexual abuse and oral health challenges, work stress & burnout risk in dental practice, and a chapter by myself and colleagues on psychological aspects of orthognathic surgery.

My advice, for what it’s worth: try not to be distracted by the faintly discourteous, the mildly incompetent, the harmlessly obnoxious. Roll with the delayed trains, dropped litter and misused apostrophes. Save your powder for the truly malevolent creatures now stalking the land.

In our fast-paced world, where change is the only constant, it's easy to forget that everything around us has a timeline, an expiry date. What was once an everyday practice can fade into obscurity, leaving the next generation unaware of its existence. One such forgotten art is that of Rafugari.
Rafugari is the meticulous craft of mending torn clothes by hand, a skill once essential and revered. In a time when fabric was precious, Rafugars, the artisans of this trade, were the saviors who extended the life of garments with just needle and thread. Their deft hands could transform a tattered piece into a work of art, seamlessly weaving stories into the fabric of daily life.
Yet today, this once-flourishing skill has faded. In the era of fast fashion and disposable clothing, many don’t even know what Rafugari means. The time when families would bring their worn-out clothes to the skilled Rafugar has been replaced by a culture of discarding and buying new.
My mission is to document and share these art forms and stories—to bring them to light for a new generation. If I can capture the essence of Rafugari on my platform, and encourage even one person to remember or discover it, I believe my job is done.
So, here’s my question to you: Do you have any memories or stories of Rafugars in your family? Perhaps you remember your grandparents having their clothes mended, or maybe there’s a Rafugar in your neighborhood who still practices this art. Share your thoughts in the comments, and let’s bring back the stories of this beautiful, almost forgotten craft.

This @FT long read on the use of #PhysicianAssociates in the #NHS has generated hundreds of comments. A key concern is the lack of national standards around what PAs can and cannot do for patients. ft.com/content/5a533507-f11d…
