Starters for Mavs tonight in Houston - Cooper, PJ, Gafford, Max Christie and for the first time in almost 600 days we get to see Kyrie Irving in an official NBA game. Pretty excited for that!!!

The Mavs have filled their open two-way spot by signing Walter Clayton Jr. He spent last season with the Jazz and Grizzlies. Was waived by Memphis as they had to cut down from 17 guaranteed contracts to 15 this week. He was the Most Outstanding Player of the 2025 Final Four.
Keeping my exercise so I can eat stuff like this haha. No running updates unfortunately.
Plantar fasciitis and osseous edema in my left heel (which I just fought through and ran with from February to September before finally seeing a doctor because I love running and I’m super stubborn).
But bought a used peloton and riding that has filled the void adequately. Rode my own little time trial on the one in the hotel today.
Now my output comes in at ~2.6 watts/kg which is pretty avg in the big picture. I mean Wout Van Aert would drop me in 10 seconds lol but I’m not doing bad for a 55 year old dude.
Started the season off with trips to two of my Houston favorites.
Bollo Woodfired Pizza - which would sneak into my top 20 pizzerias in the US (I get the diavola - spicy soppressata & red peppers)
Roostar - which I think has one of the best banh mi in the country (grilled pork)
I used to tell Dwight when he did this that he would be great at the Mesoamerican ballgame (also called pok-ta-pok)
If you’ve seen the ball courts at indigenous archeological sites in Mexico and Central America like Chichén Itzá for example you get the reference.
Nice to see the tradition carried forward!

Mavs roster avg age as of Oct. 19: 25 yrs 160 days.
Decrease in avg age of 1 year and 168 days is 4th biggest in NBA last season to this one behind Bucks, T-Wolves & Kings.
Avg age of 25y 160d puts the Mavs at the 5th youngest roster in the NBA as of 10/19, behind Nets, Grizzlies, Thunder & Hornets.

Jett Howard and Tobi Lawal as noted by asterisks are their two-way contract players, so they do have a two-way spot open. Some pretty intriguing names hit the waiver wire today so we’ll see if they wait a few days for players to clear waivers and add someone into that 3rd two-way slot soon.

Dallas - 5 (Aldama, Biberovic, de Larrea, Morez Johnson Jr., Risacher)
Minnesota - 4
Lakers - 4
Gotta wait on opening right rosters to be set Monday for this to be official but looks like the Mavs are going to end up with one of the more significant get younger shifts of the NBA offseason:
Players added on standard contracts who are 25 or younger:
Milwaukee has 6: Nate Ament, Kasparas Jakucionis, Brayden Burries, Bogoljub Markovic, Kel’el Ware, and Jaime Jaquez Jr.
Mavs have 5: Morez Johnson Jr., Sergio de Larrea, Zaccharie Risacher, Santi Aldama, Tarik Biberovic.
Couple of other teams may end up at 5…several at 4. We’ll see how it shakes out next Monday.
