Before, Mercedes left WWE there were only 5 womens wrestlers in America that could chat to her in terms of name value. Becky, Charlotte, Bayley, Asuka, and Bianca. Ask yourself: How have these women been booked since Mercedes signed with AEW?

I think Mercedes commanding millions of dollars rocked them to their core. The truth is, if Rhea, Iyo, and other high end women were consistently presented and used at the top, they’d easily be the undisputed most popular talents on the roster,..and once that’s metrically undeniable via merch sales, social media, etc…the ladies will look for compensation to reflect that.
Roman and Cody make far far more money than 90% of the roster. I don’t think TKO wants an Iyo Sky or a Rhea built up to the point where their market value approaches upwards of $6,000,000 annually or more.

Mariah Carey has turned the start of the holiday season into an annual pop culture event, and now she’s seemingly bringing her 1995 grunge album, Someone’s Ugly Daughter, into the mix. The range! She understands her musical legacy, knows how to keep her catalog in conversation, and continues to find new ways to captivate audiences decades into her career. A marketing genius.

I actually made a tweet about this in 2022, explaining my theory about why Sasha Banks’s reigns were always short. She was constantly challenging the status quo. Those shorter reigns coincided with her repeatedly being positioned to have big matches and headline major shows, from the first women’s HIAC match, Ironman match, and FCA match to the WrestleMania 37 main event.
Her 6 world title reigns combined are shorter than a single reign from a handful of other women, but many of those lengthy reigns pale in comparison in terms of significance because every time Sasha was champion, there was sustained fan pressure to see her in big matches and marquee feuds during the PPV cycles. That’s why Sasha was a problem to them.

With respect to Chelsea Green, (who I actively like) they see her as somebody who’s likeable, popular, and an overachieving talent with a knack for making chicken shit turn into chicken salad…but nobody in the world would argue she should main event Summer Slam, and I think WWE takes comfort in that. It doesn’t challenge the status quo or top of the card. She doesn’t put them in position to go “fuck, we should probably close with this..how is Roman gonna take that..”

The 4HW era had already dramatically shifted the pay ceiling for a top woman in wrestling. Mercedes going to AEW broke the ceiling altogether.
There’s a reason the women of that era and their immediate successors (Iyo, Rhea, Bianca) stopped being positioned as main event level.
WWE crowds were so ready to make a new megastar. The "We want Sasha" chants even before her entrance. Everyone was buzzing. Just waiting for Sasha to win. And then ...
