My new book is available for pre-order. The book looks at the Sisi's model of state capitalism, where I argue that this is an economic model where surplus values in Egypt are in a process of continuous pillaging , backed by mass state violence.

How will Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's recent decision to not seek another term in 2030 impact democratic hopes in Egypt?
For @MagedMandour, an inadvertent democratic opening could appear, but it will take a massive effort to succeed.

My latest on Sisi's announced departure in 2030. I try to answer the question if it represents an actual democratic opening or a consolidation of military rule.

Journalistic malpractice.
@Reuters omits the fact that Trump is not cutting off the money, just moving it.
The NDAA will shield US tax dollars to Israel by moving them into the Pentagon procurement process.
Less oversight, less transparency
More US tax $ flowing to Israel

Will Sisi's Departure Represent a Democratic Opening or Military Consolidation in Egypt? @MagedMandour

dawnmena.org/will-sisis-depa… 1st time since 2013 president & military will have daylight between them creating opening opposition can exploit, too optimistic.Likely scenario is deeper militarization & authoritarian consolidation, significantly increasing resilience/longevity of regime

The indefinite destabilization from this war coupled with the government’s decade long refusal to address most is the structural problems with the economy will likely push Egypt to return to the IMF after this program ends next month.

After saying he won't run for office when his term ends in 2030, Egyptian President El-Sisi outlined a succession plan.
That plan will most likely deepen militarization and authoritarianism. Yet it leaves a small democratic opening, @MagedMandour writes. dawnmena.org/will-sisis-depa…

Explosive admission!
The head of the Mossad, David Barnea, admits that Israel used ordinary Iranians as tools to protect Mossad operatives in the country.
Rarely will you find a more crude admission of how Israel deliberately and carelessly put thousands of people it claimed it sought to liberate in harm’s way:
In June 2025, the Israeli spy agency deliberately published multiple videos in real time of its agents acting against in Iran to compel the Iranian government to arrest as many people as possible.
“We wanted to make sure they arrested so many people in Iran that they wouldn’t be able to distinguish the wheat [the actual Mossad agents] from the chaff and would eventually release everyone,” he said.
“You have to imagine that when you arrest 21,000 people, even if you’ve caught an agent or two, eventually you have to release them... the IRGC would have no way of knowing who was a real agent with such a vast number of detainees."
Barnea added that many of those arrested or executed by the IRGC as “Mossad agents” had nothing to do with the agency.

The book also connects the development of Sisi`s state capitalism to the global capitalist system, highlighting the role of the IMF, international financial markets, the Gulf states, and the EU in the development of this variant of militarized capitalism.

The whereabouts of Mada Masr Editor-in-Chief Lina Attalah remain unknown, over three hours after Mada Masr paid the court-ordered fine at the New Cairo Misdemeanor Court this afternoon.
Attalah was taken into the custody of security officers from the court immediately after the court issued a ruling convicting her of running a website without a license. The ruling came with a penalty fine of LE3 million and orders for the closure of Mada Masr’s website.
Her defense counsel were present in the courtroom but were not informed of where she was being taken. Mada Masr paid the fine in full in the ensuing hours.
