ādid you guys date?ā
no. we just texted every day, spent hours talking, flirted, acted jealous, gave each other mixed signals, got attached, became a part of each otherās routines and then became strangers with memories we canāt even talk about :)

One Engineer and the President of Architects appeared before Eric Latiff and others days ago. You clearly could see that Lattif and cohosts were not getting it!
Then we had the Immediate Past President of @TheIEK and a teacher of Architecture, in fact a distinguished Professor of Architecture on another TV show⦠the panelists got further confused! They got lost.
The Point: Kenyan Journalists should acquire specific knowledge. If you must interview a Professor in Medicine bring someone with medical background.
You canāt bring āDavid Mwenjeā to interview a Bridges Engineer and a Landscaping Architect. Or āPeter Salasyaā to interview a Cardiologist? Why do you waste your viewers time?
In many countries you hear of Engineering Journalist, Medical Journalist, Political Journalist, Educational Journalist, Environmental Journalist among others. But in Kenya every other media personnel will station all sorts of interviews with Lattif, Linus, and Okwara glossing, stammering, wobbling, screaming and staggering over every topic under the sun.

Sad is he who says āI am a Kenyan engineer.ā
Why? He is poorly paid and poorly regarded by the state.

Registration process is not difficult. Maybe, relatively expensive.
For Architects you will need atleast 2yrs of experience post graduation. Proper documentation of projects. 2 written papers and 1 oral paper.
Total cost including CPD comes to around 100k.
@xysist
Eric Latiff and colleagues failed Kenyans in the interview. The Architect and the Engineer are clearly saying there are less than 1500 registered architects in the country and the Engineer says there are less than 2000 registered engineers in the country, they are not asking why there are so many Graduate Engineers out there who are not employed. What these two professions should tell Kenyans is why they are making it difficult for graduates to get licenses to operate. Because there are very few that is why contractors are forced to get anyone who claims to be an architect or an engineer to come up with structures like the one that collapsed in Easteleigh youtu.be/Qs0C-Jmcg4I?is=a85Uā¦

THE ENGINEER: Education, Training, Professional growth, Membership and Professional Registration by @EngineersBoard , @TheIEK and @ACEK1968
1. One is required to complete a 5 yr accredited engineering degree from a university.
2. While at the university you may apply for membership as a student Engineer
3. On successful completion of the university (5yrs) you MUST apply for registration as a graduate engineer (GE). You will need a Proposer and a Seconder (Must be Professional Engineer in relevant field).
This is normally the first stage of loosing it! Most guys after university will be employed or start businesses with huge profits and forget about professional development!
4. On the 6th year- As a GE you start a new journey of āTraining and Experienceā for another 3 years, under mentorship of a Professional Engineer.
5. At end of 8 yr (5 class + 3 field) your are required to write 2 reports (training and experience, normally called Part 1 & 2) to aid your transition from Graduate Engineer (GE) to Professional Engineer (PE)
You SHALL submit these reports to the Board @EngineersBoard of Kenya or @TheIEK forwarded under āApplication for Interview for Professional Engineerā cover.
The Board will review your submission and decide whether umeiva ama hujaiva. You will likely be called for the interview if you have met the requirements (5 yr degree, 3 yr experience, adequate training)
6. Earliest, in the 9th year you will appear for an ORAL interview before a panel of not less than 3 engineers (PEs or CEs). These will interrogate your education, training, experience and if they see umeiva (you are okey), youāll be scheduled for a closed book written exam on the same day. Should they feel you are not ready, you may not be invited for the written examination
7. Hopefully in the 9th year the results will be out and you will be confirmed A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER (PE).
This is the time a person is āEngineerā.
When you (developer) or Public is looking for an āEngineerā, you are looking for a Person at 9th year minimum.
There are not as many Kenyans in this stage, about 4,000 only in all engineering disciplines.
Engineers who are Experts at Building Construction (Structural Engineers) are barely 800 in the entire Country. These are CIVIL ENGINEERS with bias in structural engineering. Other Civil Engineers are in roads, water, sanitation, bridges, foundations, railway etc).
Understand: out of the 4000 Professional Engineers, nearly 2000 are Civil Engineers. From the 2000 Civil Engineers about 800 are experts at buildings (structural engineers).
8. After 16 years, On completion of active practice for 7 years as a Professional Engineer (PE), in the 8th year one may apply for upgrading to become a Consulting Engineer. This entails submission of a report and invitation for an interview by @EngineersBoard . The applicant requires a proposer and a seconder both consulting engineers.
You will sit an oral interview before a panel of not less than 3 consulting engineers
9. You may pass of fail, but that we leave to God. When you PASS you become a Professional Consulting Engineer, You effectively upgrade from PE to CE (5 +3+ 7=15) min if you are a cool kid (never the case). Must prove you have assured society. Kenya has about 500 consulting engineers (CEs) in all engineering disciplines!
10. At this time (after 7 yrs as PE) you may apply to @TheIEK Institution of Engineers of to upgrade from a CORPORATE MEMBER to a FELLOW MEMBER. Must prove you have assisted society. Need 2 proposers and 2 Seconders, all Fellows. Not as many though, about 250 in Kenya.
11. After this progression (Fellow Membership not a requirement), you may register an engineering Consulting Firm and APPLY for Membership to the ASSOCIATION OF CONSULTING ENGINEERS OF KENYA @ACEK1968
There are about 165 Engineering consulting firms in Kenya.
12. Yours truly has covered the entire Journey.
~have a Progressive day.

My honest opinion as someone who registered 5 years ago is that itās not difficult to register. Most people just donāt want to write the reports and submit them to EBK.
Iāll give you an assignment, show me one person who is qualified and has not been able to register and I will assist them

Replying to @IkeOjuku
The problem is not because of lack of Registration.
In fact Registration by itself is meaningless without Work. There are no Jobs. EBK, IEK and NCA have failed to make their presence felt and create Jobs.
But they have made Registration and CPD points to be their Core task.
Procurement Laws have been enacted. There is no scope for Engineering.
There is so is no 40% Local Content.
And the Engineers in Employment have NO idea of what Local Content is.
A Mama Mboga Buying an imported TATA Tipper on Loan, using imported Diese, carting away Soil from Road Works by CRBC is considered Local Content.
What ignorance.
IEK, EBK, NCA should be re-Engineered
