Thank you to everyone in Lambeth who put their trust in me over 12 years, to the staff at Lambeth Council, and to the residents, volunteers and community organisations in Brixton Rush Common who do so much for our area. None of this work is ever done alone

Great piece about #Lambeth’s work with @centrepointuk to build 18 affordable homes for young people aged 18-25, with rent capped at 1/3 of income.
The homes bridge the gap between supported living & private rentals, helping those at risk of homelessness.

🎄 Day 4 of #12DaysOfChristmas 🎄
Delighted that the Senedd has voted to consent to the Tobacco & Vapes Bill in Wales. Alongside our partners, we’ve been proud to support this landmark legislation and its implementation here in Wales.
Smoking remains the leading cause of cancer in Wales — and today’s vote is a meaningful step towards helping to change this in the years ahead.
Today is #SmallBusinessSaturday. After my cllr surgery, I popped into some of many wonderful indy shops & cafes on Wells side of Streatham High Rd (+ Leigham Court Rd). Inc new additions:

"Keeping alcohol duty in line with the Retail Prices Index is the long-established norm. It is only because successive governments have repeatedly cut or frozen duty that the industry has come to treat these tax giveaways as the default."

We’re protecting children from obesity and tooth decay by extending the soft drinks industry levy to more products.
These changes could cut 17 million calories a day from the UK’s daily intake, meaning healthier children and less pressure on the NHS.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bernard Gentry on Mon aged 65. He was a stalwart of @Conservatives for 40+ years
Most recently he served with distinction as @WelshConserv Chairman
He served on @lambeth_council in 1994, 2002 & 2014
May he rest in peace

👀 These are already in place across Europe, so why doesn’t London have one?
This could be reinvested into services the previous government cut e.g. community safety, and continue to make London a leading global destination to visit & live in.

Rachel Reeves is expected to announce plans for a new nightly levy for British holidaymakers and foreign tourists on hotel stays and Airbnb-style rentals
The chancellor is set to give mayors sweeping powers to raise taxes by charging tourists on the cost of an overnight stay.
The move is expected to raise hundreds of millions of pounds for mayors such as Sir Sadiq Khan and Andy Burnham to invest in transport and public services in their cities
The UK is seen as an outlier in not having a tourism tax
UKHospitality says a levy of 5 per cent, the rate set by Edinburgh last year, would mean an effective consumer tax of 27 per cent on hotel stays once VAT is taken into account
The measures will be introduced using amendments to the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill, which is making its way through parliament

🚲E-bikes are transforming travel in Lambeth, with over 6 million rides this year alone, up 80% from 2024.
✅But as their use grows, so does the need for more parking, fairer pricing, and safer streets for everyone.

Streatham community coming together as it does best, this Remembrance Sunday. Theme of today's service was healing and hope; of seeing the world through others' eyes; of charting a course for peace, as well as being thankful for those who gave their lives to secure it in past.
