Daniel Prude & Angelo Quinto would still be alive today if there were other systems in place. If we know current approaches don’t keep people alive, why do we still rely on them? I’m excited to talk w/ @MarcForDA @theresetoddMA @rukiyaking. Join us on Wed! drny-org.zoom.us/j/937924210…

There are several progressive candidates in the race for Manhattan DA to choose from. Let's not elect the candidate of hedge funds & billionaires, who opposes criminal justice reforms and thinks Cy Vance is doing a good job.

We haven’t forgotten that Susan Collins is the reason Brett Kavanaugh sits on the court. We remember her betrayal and we will keep fighting. We raised $4 million against her future opponent and we can raise more. secure.actblue.com/donate/vo…

Yesterday, a man was released after serving 35 years for robbing a bakery of $50. Today, 2 NYPD officers accused of raping an 18 y/o woman in their van & bribery will receive probation.
I just witnessed the most extraordinary moment. Judge David Carpenter in Bessemer, AL has resentenced Alvin Kennard to time served after he got life without parole for robbing a bakery of $50 in 1983. He is now 58 & was 22 when he committed the robbery.

The murders of Black trans women in America are a crisis. We must call it out and fight back, until everyone is free to be who they are without fear. Say her name: Denali Berries Stuckey. nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/…

Let's not forget that in 2011 Manhattan DA, Cy Vance, argued for leniency for Epstein. My clients (mostly poor people of color) never receive the same treatment. This is exactly the two-tiered system of justice that should not exist. #JeffreyEpstein nypost.com/2018/12/01/manhat…

Bryan Stevenson may well be the most consequential civil rights lawyer since Thurgood Marshall. If Marshall and the NAACP helped dismantle Jim Crow, the task Stevenson has carved out may be even more difficult: working to eliminate Jim Crow’s legacy. theundefeated.com/features/h…

I am truly humbled to receive an endorsement from @dr_yusefsalaam. Yusef knows too well the tragedy that is mass incarceration and his story exemplifies the urgency by which we must end the cycle of wrongful convictions that unjustly targets communities of color.

Five years and still no justice for Eric Garner. The CCRB must fire Officer Pantaleo. Our justice system failed the Garner family when it did not press criminal charges against Officer Pantaleo. We must do more to hold bad officers accountable.
The officer who arrested Eric Garner is going on trial for the first time Monday morning - but it’s a far cry from a typical criminal trial. cityandstateny.com/articles/…

The banging sounds made by the people being held in the pitch black cold #MDC are heartbreaking. The cries of family member who haven’t been allowed to visit are heartbreaking. The anger from the crowd standing in solidarity is loud and isn’t going to stop! #UntilThereIsHeat
It’s gotten dark outside of MDC Brooklyn Detention Center and it’s evident there’s no electricity. People are waving flashlights out of dark windows. #UntilThereIsHeat

Outrageous. Transgender woman, who had previously changed her name legally, is arrested for being in the park after dark. She gives NYPD officers both her birth and current legal names. Bronx DA charges her with “false personation” for “knowingly misrepresenting” her actual name.
BREAKING: We're suing the NYPD on behalf of a transgender woman who was charged with “false personation” after she provided officers with both her previous and current legal names. We can't allow the NYPD to continue criminalizing transgender people for existing.

Replying to @ScottHech
Every time a person living with mental illness was shot by a police officer responding to a "disturbance," where simple humanity called for action that could never be accomplished with a gun.
