After two months of job searching, I finally have some good news: I just started my new job as Quality and Data Specialist @DUcollege. I'll be using data and analytics to improve learning experiences and shape higher ed strategy. Really excited for the new challenge!
Some overdue personal announcements... 1. My contract at @UoMhistdept expired at the beginning of this month. I had a great year there and learned so much. I'll definitely miss my fantastic colleagues!
3. This is probably the end of the road in academia for me, at least for now. Looking to apply my experience in EdTech, L&D or research/analytics roles, so if you know of any opportunities, let me know!
Student feedback on one of my courses this year: "The teaching from the underpaid staff on insecure contracts was fantastic, as always."🙄
Very proud of our MA student @angharadmaix for going on BBC Radio Wales to explain why exactly statues/monuments to slave owners and colonialists need to come down. You can listen to it here (starts 1:21:00): bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000jv…
And on top of that she has also started a petition to teach more Black history in Welsh schools! Well done, Angharad! petitions.senedd.wales/petit…

Today History Dept Manchester University passed a resolution on Black Lives Matter, pledging to do more in terms of recruitment of staff and students of colour, decolonising our curriculum, and acknowledge the deep-seated racial roots of the discipline. So proud of you colleagues

Just took a few minutes to add up all the marking I did since last Sept. By end of June I will have marked 550 individual pieces of assessment (from L1 essays to MA thesis); a total of about 1,287,500 words. Life of the fixed-term lecturer!
Even if I use the ambitious figure of 20 mins per piece (unrealistic given this also includes dissertations), that's 183.3h of marking, or 4.58 full work weeks of non-stop marking.
Completely agree with this. One thing I learned from my research is the huge potential to bounce back from crisis when local communities are given the tools to make their own decisions. theguardian.com/society/2020…

For anyone who missed @MarcelT293's fascinating talk on construction noise and value change in West Germany, you can listen to it here: digitalmedia.sheffield.ac.uk…
Thanks for having me! I feel like a digital pioneer now...
A huge thanks to @MarcelT293 for braving the hazards of delivering a research paper online to tell us about construction work, noise complaints, and value change in post-1945 Frankfurt! Thanks also to everybody who joined the session, from Sheffield and from further afield.
