The ridiculous attacks on Judge O'Donnell are beyond silly. They are shameful lies to buy a seat. Sean is an independent and impartial judge. He'll protect Washington's civil rights and has an unmatched record on public safety and survivor consideration. That's why he has support from diverse folks, judges, community groups and beyond. Judicial races are supposed to be above the partisan pale. His opponent, by not condeming the IEs, is saying it's okay to go low for votes sake. Finally, Sean is solely listed on the esteemed Tacoma Black Collective Educational Voters Guide which is a guide to understand candidates that align witwh their core values. He's exceptionally well qualified and is a clear choice.
We’ve entered the silly season of the campaign homestretch where a lot of false claims are being batted around so I want to be absolutely clear about one thing: I support our laws protecting reproductive freedom for women in Washington State. I say this as a dad and husband and someone who has worked closely with victims of rape and incest and someone who believes in peoples’ right to make decisions about their body and health without interference. Full stop. Anyone who says otherwise is trying to snow you on this.

My friend just called me. He lives in an HOA neighborhood. He’s proposed something reasonable. The community is going crazy. He’s asking me what to do. I told him that HOA is the worst thing in the world. And that it’s smarter to sell your house than get in a fight w crazy people.

my take on that rebellion pac ad is that it was a total disservice to the campaign. 1st rule of outside spend, do no harm. 2nd rule, your value comes from persuading people who otherwise haven’t been. instead, they created a whole negative news cycle for the campaign

October 29, 1979 In the Seahawks' first-ever primetime appearance, holder and starting quarterback Jim Zorn hits placekicker Efrén Herrera with this sweet fake field goal pass for a first down. Seattle would defeat the Falcons on Monday Night Football in Atlanta, 31-28. ABC's Frank Gifford hints before the play that some trickery might be brewing, then Howard Cosell erupts afterwards in praise of Seahawks head coach Jack Patera's creativity.

You know what would have been great for American manufacturing investment? NOT repealing key policies that lowered taxes for the US solar, wind and EV sectors.
Wow this is interesting 👀. The @WhiteHouse official account is promoting a solar manufacturing facility being developed in Texas after Trump's visit to the state yesterday. Ken Paxton campaign account also promoting

From the FAFO dept, Tacoma's housing investment market is now in free fall. The most stringent rent control regime in the PNW, and now the threat of tenant collective bargaining, no investors are touching the market. Despite it being a good market with growing rents. 1/x

San Francisco's rent resurgence is a great example of how cities must think about laying the foundation for housing construction PRIOR to a boom. Reform all the things and set the incentives when the market stinks, laying the foundation for development as market turns. The problem for San Francisco right now is that while rents surge, so are interest rates -- making development harder -- plus studies show it takes 5 years to get multifamily built there... and that's AFTER you secure a site. So anyone looking to capitalize on today's market (and thereby relieve rent growth pressures) isn't building for this cycle... it's likely for the next cycle, which adds more risk. Meanwhile, San Francisco makes it problems worse by leaning on the old trope about landlords being greedy yada yada yada instead of taking a look in the mirror. Bottom line is there's little chance for supply-side relief any time soon -- a lose/lose for renters and for developers who otherwise could both benefit by getting more stuff built.

🌶️ Quotes of the Day from Michael Cembalest, keynoting the @AndlingerCenter Annual Meeting today: "SMRs are the Metaverse of the energy sector. I don't think a single one of these is going to operate." "One of the highest ratios in the world is the number of academic papers on carbon capture divided by the actual amount of carbon captured in the world." "When we started writing about hydrogen, we started calling it 'why-drogen' because thermodynamically, it makes no sense." We're underway with a packed agenda today @Princeton discussing Energy Security in an Era of Recurring Geopolitical Schocks. Sessions are recorded and will be shared later. Every Big Story Has a Pacific Northwest Connection… “Perhaps more surprising this election cycle is two owners giving heavily to liberal candidates: New Seahawks owner Vinod Khosla donated $2 million to the Democrats’ Senate arm…”
NFL owners spent about $18 million on the midterms, with the huge majority of that going to Republicans. And then you have Arthur Blank, who donated to AOC frontofficesports.com/articl…

Seattle City Attorney Erika Evans ran and won last year as a strong progressive, so it was no big surprise when she announced a couple weeks ago she is reinstating a version of a therapeutic community court, where non-violent offenders are diverted to try to get them the help and services they need rather than face punishment. And given that this is Seattle, you might expect that Evans’ new “Connections Court” would replicate the ridiculous neo-abolitionist Woke 1 principles that undergirded Seattle’s previous version of community court, formed in 2019, where there were essentially no consequences for not showing up (and no meaningful help offered to those who did), which is what led Evans’ Republican predecessor to unwind it. But you would be wrong. Erika Evans just joined us on @RealSeattleNice (link to follow) to explain why she’s making “accountability” a centerpiece of the new court, why she is also implementing a new approach to get tougher on repeat offenders, and why she liked what she saw on a recent visit to San Francisco regarding the new less permissive approaches to street disorder they’re putting in place there. Even in Seattle, vibes are shifting. Not the approaches you would have expected from the new progressive City Attorney!

Replying to @PeterMoskos
@PeterMoskos spent the better part of two years as a cop patrolling the mean streets of East Baltimore on the midnight to 8 am shift, then he went on to get a Harvard Ph.D. and now teaches at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in NYC. Peter has strong, well informed opinions about what blue city progressives get wrong about crime and about policing, so @hyded and I invited him to join us on BCB to talk about what good policing looks like, and what impact that has on criminal activity. This turned into a fascinating @bluecitypodcast conversation about what works - and what doesn't - when it comes to maintaining order and quality of life in big American cities.

A city's economy and job market should also be urbanist goals.
SF Mayor Daniel Lurie is one of the country's most popular mayors. He's also vastly improved San Francisco's reputation as a place to build. How did he do it--and can LA learn?

Totally correct that a hungry, politically savvy and talented young campaign staffer can sometimes make all the difference in a campaign.
Every cycle, young campaign staffers grind it out trying to help a candidate get elected. They are unseen. They just keep their heads down and do their job. The MVP of this cycle may be @tysonbrody, the opposition researcher for @RevAdamHamilton. Great article in @politico about him and his work and how it may get you the first Democratic Senator in KS in 94 years. You can bet your ass his parents printed this article and it is hanging on the refrigerator. politi.co/4stRv23 via @politico
