Aviation incident is one of the most challenging situations an air traffic controller can face.
When faced with an emergency, they must remain calm, stay focused, and strictly follow the ASSIST procedure, all while being prepared to manage every second of the situation.
But behind this professional composure lies a reality that is often overlooked: that feeling of helplessness when witnessing a dramatic situation without being able to do more to save the pilot or the passengers.
This is also where one of the greatest dangers for air traffic controllers lies: the psychological and emotional impact of these events.
We are often seen as unsung heroes, and we are grateful for this recognition. But controllers are human beings, too.
After such trying days, it’s essential to stay strong, support one another, and never lose the passion that drives us: ensuring aviation safety.
Behind every calm voice on the radio is a human being who also bears the weight of these moments. ✈️
