Gadi Eisenkot is currently expected to receive the first mandate to form Israel’s next government, as Arab parties are also likely to recommend him to President Herzog.
Meanwhile, according to reporter Amiel Yarchi, sources close to Netanyahu say the prime minister has little interest in being the first to attempt forming a government. They fear that if he fails, some of his current coalition partners could feel free to abandon him and pursue other political arrangements.

Wow! An entire budget speech and not a single word on schools, colleges, student loans or early years. Ministers like to talk a good game about investing in young people, but don't seem to want to put their money where their mouth is.
The extra £1.5bn for the social and affordable homes programme (SAHP) is a tiny downpayment on the substantial boost to the programme that we need to see at the spending review.
Even at £40bn, SAHP will fall far short of delivering the 90,000 social homes per year we need.
More on housing from Healey... he says it's too hard for people; there are too many children in temporary accommodation:
- No more changes to building regulations unless it's building safety-related
- Removing biodiversity net gain requirements for brownfield sites (not everyone will like this!)
- Cheaper borrowing for councils so they can build (big change)
-All land sold to social housing providers to be VAT-free
- More money, as trailed earlier this week, for the Social and Affordable Homes Programme (SAHP) to get council and social homes built - taking it to a total of £40bn
Buying back ex-private rentals is often cheaper and faster for councils than building homes from scratch.
Acquiring these homes is part of how we solve the housing crisis - but councils need funding to do it. @helendennis80 explains in a new blog

OBR:
* Page 11 Our central economy forecast is conditioned on Bank Rate reaching just over 4¼ per cent by mid-2027 and just over 4½ per cent by the end of the forecast period, around ¾ and ½ a percentage point higher than our March forecast
* Page 15 In the central forecast, net additions to the housing stock fall from around 230,000 in
2025-26 to 220,000 in 2026-27, before increasing to 260,000 in 2030-31. Compared to March, we expect 190,000 fewer cumulative net additions over the forecast period.
* Page 14 Recent GDP growth has been stronger than we expected – and we judge this to be structural – raising the starting level of potential output. We also have a slightly higher forecast for business investment – which raises capital deepening and productivity growth a little. Offsetting this, we expect net migration to be 70,000 lower on average per year, which has a small negative impact on our potential output forecast.
Three challenges from the OBR document:
* Page 9 The direct effects of policy measures further increase borrowing by £8 billion in 2026-27, £4 billion in 2027-28, and £0.4 billion in 2028-29
* Page 122 Relative to the March 2026 forecast, welfare spending is expected to be higher across the
forecast by an average of £5 billion a year, and by £6 billion by 2030-31
* P21 Since the Spending Review envelope was set, higher inflation has reduced the real value of the original spending limits by £7 billion each year. There are further pressures in the later years of the forecast for which departmental spending limits have not been set.

I said similar in reply to someone but I think it’s worth expanding on. I think the club have completely misjudged what tourists actually value at Selhurst.
Tourists will always come when we play the big 6 to see them. What would attract a tourist to come watch us play the other 13 clubs, especially the smaller, less high profile games? For most it would be the atmosphere we’ve marketed abroad constantly over the years.
Europeans and South Americans love it, this Americanisation would put them off. And even lots of fans from the US chose us because of our unique atmosphere. They can watch better cheerleaders with better light/pyro shows in far better seats back home. Why would they come to watch Palace when they can get that experience back at home? Or at a bigger club? Or a club with a better stadium?
The fact is you can’t have a sanitised, corporate experience in a ground like Selhurst. It may work in a shiny bowl like the Amex or the emirates. Even grounds like the Hill Dickinson, Anfield, or Villa Park. But a tiny, run down shack in the middle of Croydon? Come on.
Premier League executives would ultimately love to push out season ticket holders for tourists who they can charge 2x or 3x as much per game. But anyone paying that price with no attachment to the club isn’t going to accept the view at the back of the Arthur, or the toilets, cramped concourses, cold food, issues at the turnstiles, a tiny box office and club shop that you have to queue 30 minutes just to get inside.
And if we go down? They all disappear. Do you really want to lose your loyal fanbase too?

Is this the beginning of a property crash?
Inner London flat prices fell by 8.1% in the year to August, ahead of a 1.6% decline nationally, Telegraph analysis of Land Registry data has shown.
It's the steepest drop since 2009 with owners losing £50,000 on average since last summer.
Labour stamp duty hikes and attacks on the buy-to-let market have had a major effect. Also the increases in mortgage rates caused by out-of-control public finances. According to Bank of England figures the average rate on a new two-year fixed-rate mortgage has increased from 3.98% in March to 4.69% in August
London property has been battered by Labour's mansion tax, which is killing the top end of the market and whose effects are flowing downward. It's a toxic combination of policies, which, of course, have not been thought through.
