With the 24-team playoff, Notre Dame has won the war to keep its independence.

Nightmare scenario*
*Dream scenario for media folks like Stewart because the committee will dangle them around 10-12 the entire process and they can pontificate all the possibilities and then the committee drops them to 13 on the final show and everyone cheers.
Notre Dame's loss has me already pondering a nightmare scenario.
They lose to Miami, finish 10-2 and finish 12th. Which gets them in over No. 11.

Big 12 statement:
"Following the Big 12’s review of the final play of Saturday’s Notre Dame-BYU game, it was determined that time remained on the clock when the ball hit the ground and the play was incorrectly cleared by the replay officiating crew. The Conference will conduct a complete review of its end-of-game officiating process in advance of next week's games."

As some have noted, there was indeed :01 on the bug clock when the pass hit the ground (BYU/ND). Replay should have reviewed to determine if the in-stadium clock was at :01 at that point and if so, ND would have had one more play.
