While an exorbitant number of formerly incarcerated people are homeless, nearly three times as many are housing insecure. The stigma of criminalization perpetuates a dangerous exclusion of vulnerable people from the housing market.

The other interesting thing- is that this law also makes MA the first to allow free phone calls in county jails. Email communication and video calls will also be free. wgbh.org/news/local/2023-11-… @GBHNews @NPR #mapoli

The #MALeg came so far in a year—passing the reenacted bill for #NoCostCalls with a commitment in the bill title to keep calls *unlimited* on Dec. 1, just as they are now! HUGE victory for impacted leaders & organizers + important commitment by #mapoli #KeepFamiliesConnected
After years of advocacy led by directly impacted people, phone calls for incarcerated people and their loved ones are now free in MA! Read the No Cost Calls Coalition's press release here: plsma.org/NCCPress

A Senate proposal introduced last week would send THOUSANDS of people released under CARES Act back to federal prison - in some cases years after they were released. It's wild to me that this isn't getting more coverage. reason.com/2023/11/06/senate…

Most jailed people have the right to vote – but few can. Legally innocent individuals awaiting a trial never lose the right to vote, and yet they are overwhelmingly denied the ability to cast a ballot. naacpldf.org/detained-and-di…

This is an urgent moment for medical care for incarcerated people in MA. This fall @MAcorrections will solicit bids from private contractors to provide healthcare for incarcerated folks in the state. Now is our chance to change the terms of that contract (1/x)
