Continual learning will take AI from doing <5% of my business tasks, to 90%. It's a huge deal. They "just" need to be able to learn on the job. @dwarkesh_sp gets it. We are so close.
Hi @JonBryant421. Wondering if you have any more thoughts on Tesla being "too far away to speculate" from deploying Robotaxis? Are the hundreds of Robotaxis without safety drivers across 6 cities enough for you to admit you were wrong? robotaxitracker.com/
Replying to @MassiBuilds @theBocker70
Too far away to speculate. For perspective, Waymo averaged 5000 miles between disengagement and 2017. It is a long slow march of nines.
Does the Tesla gets there? Unsure. However, there will be signs along the way if they are to get there, you don’t just jump to autonomy.
Really enjoyed this podcast. youtu.be/09SJ4SR4Z-0 You guys should do more of this format, @davelee @EmmetPeppers.
Dave, I think your basic point in the middle section was that RSI is everything, and SpaceX should be putting all focus into achieving it, at the expense of projects like Imagine. I totally agree. The first company to achieve RSI could advance so rapidly that it ends up attracting most of the capital and buying up most of the compute, making it impossible for competitors to catch up. So Emmet, your point about the leaders having to do something to stop the others could play out, but it wouldn't necessarily involve anything shady. It could simply be that the leader becomes so far ahead, with so much capital and access to compute, that nobody else can compete. It's probably not that likely, but it's definitely a possibility and existential for SpaceX and Tesla. It's weird that it doesn't seem like Musk has internalised this risk yet (by continuing projects like Grokipeda, Imagine, AI gaming etc.) and not just focusing like Anthropic have.

I TOLD YOU SO! 🤪
Controversial take: @SpaceX stock will rise not fall on the first unlock day next week.
A ton of funds are already short in anticipation and they’ll wanna cover the short ASAP
Another option is to do a boring, sweaty business. It'll be a while before house cleaning, painting and pressure washing get replaced by robots. And you can run them remotely, so it's something an indiehacker could pivot to.
Excellent interview. SpaceX will be volatile but is such an obvious buy long term
Full interview with @shaunmmaguire of @sequoia on @SpaceX IPO.
"Orbital compute will be the lowest cost provider of inference compute by at least a factor of three over large scale terrestrial compute. As we've learned in any commodity industry, if you're the lowest cost provider, you are going to crush."
We discuss:
- the growth trajectory and why retail will likely understand this company better than Wall Street does.
- Starship and why it's more technically derisked than the public realizes
- orbital compute, an inevitability
- thermal engineering advantages
- his view on why meaningful launch competition is at least a decade away
- why Starlink and direct-to-cell will make SpaceX the world's lowest-cost broadband and mobile provider

Sure Starship has landed on Mars, but we’re talking about a small geofence on one side of the planet. And have you noticed there’s always a chase ship following close behind it?
It's insane. I'm working very hard, with 2 other cofounders, to get our very basic local service business to 10M in revenue. Musk is the CEO of multiple businesses on track to trillion dollar valuations. It's crazy how much of a skill gap can exist in two brains that are made of the same stuff.
AGI will probably solve a lot of cold case crimes. Good idea to be on your best behaviour from now on
Miami Podtel could be the MVP for this on Mars

Downtown Miami Subsurface Pod Hotel
1 mile circular tunnel beneath downtown Miami (0.16mile radius)
Linear sequence of compact overnight lodging pods, 18ft x 5ft.
Each pod contains:
King size bed
Sofa and nice tv
Cosy bathroom
Minimal, brutalist style
Pods designed for short-stay use (2–5 nights)
Pedestrian corridor for access, just one bore needed for pods + access corridor.
Just 1 surface entry structure needed in the middle of the loop, 5-6 sloped ramps to the underground loop.
Water, power, HVAC all under the floor (plenty of space)
Benefit:
Cost effective short term housing, great for young and tourists.
Could add housing to the supply (fewer Airbnbs needed).
Practice for mars.
Financial model:
Pods: 300
Nightly price: $70 (average in downtown Miami 250+)
Occupancy: 75% (price is much lower than average, demand will be huge)
Revenue: 5.7mil
40% profit margin (high but doable - no food service, no daily cleaning, automated access, small unit size)
Profit before debt: 2.3mil per year
Repayments on 20mil, 6% construction loan for 300 pods: 1.45mil
Net Profit: 0.85mil per year
Debt Service Coverage Ratio: 1.59 (great)
If the developer pays TBC 10mil for the tunnel, then profit is lower but still profitable.
Why Miami
High hotel prices - unlimited demand for pods
Fewer regulations for construction than blue states.
My politics are whatever this is not
"It's a morbid symptom, Anglo-futurism, and that's where British politics is: it is stuck with the fantasies of world leadership and renewal through deregulation."

The ratio of teenagers buying booze, to teenagers buying non alcoholic drinks is literally infinite. And I mean literally. Glad the government is spending time and money on this important issue.

Health Minister Ashley Dalton: "There is some evidence to suggest that exposure to alcohol-like products, even if low or zero alcohol, can normalise drinking, and become a gateway to alcohol consumption"

.@MarcusHouse any idea roughly when the next Starship launch is going to be? I'm planning a US trip late February/early March
