ZooMS analysis also allows for improved association of taxonomic identity with taphonomic data, which in several cases provides additional behavioural information.

The integration of skeletal representation with the ZooMS taxonomic identifications has the potential to add elements to the inventory of the faunal record, contributing to our understanding of the transport of articulated remains to the site and carcass processing.

Depending on the ease of identification of certain taxa, a differential identification rate can bias representation of dominant taxa, and the addition of ZooMS allows for a more exhaustive evaluation of the preserved bone assemblage.

Indeed, ZooMS component of Palaeolithic bone assemblages can differ significantly from the morphologically identifiable component. Discrepancies in taxonomic abundances are seen notably through an underrepresentation of Bos/Bison and equids at Les Cottés and La Ferrassie.
