If Robotaxi eats Waymo’s lunch in Austin then Google might try to outbid SpaceX and acquire Tesla…
I spoke with a nice UK couple at our hotel yesterday about AVs. They’d only heard of Waymo and taken a few rides before. They asked about all the gold cars around town and were shocked by how many they saw. I explained how @TeslaSI powers those gold cabs—an unmatched mind blowing experience. I suggested they try one when they go out to dinner and showed them the app, saying they wouldn’t want to ride in any other AV again. Today at the pool I saw them again and they said to me they took a CyberCab out to dinner! They said it felt like science fiction, and they FaceTimed friends back home while in the cab. He told me he now sees how this will change the world and Waymo won’t be able to survive as more people experience CyberCab for themselves. I can’t say I disagree.

Holy shit! Elon said the SpaceX’s compute buildout and related plans point to ARR ā€œsomewhere between $500 billion and $1 trillionā€ by year-end 2027.

Four year anniversary of buying my Tesla Model Y AWD during peak demand. How much did I pay? Closest guess (including T+L) gets $4.20 in X Money.

To be clear, I don’t think Tesla joining Google would be a better fit or the preferred outcome. But as a Tesla shareholder, my goal is to receive the greatest return on investment. If this is not your goal, you are not investor, you are a fan. There’s nothing wrong with that, but you will have a different priority. If Tesla is going to be acquired, I want multiple bitters. Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, and Nvidia would all be welcome bidders to drive the price up.

Our friends @DougDeMuro and the @carsandbids pod hosts discuss Tesla’s new Supercharger emergency breakaway feature. Never missing a chance to trash Tesla, here are their thoughts: •"Tesla drivers are the least detail-oriented humans on the planet." •"The average Model Y person has ran over someone without realizing. They accidentally committed hit and run.ā€ •"So Nick, don't get a Tesla. You have to do the calculus of do I want to get shot and hope my health insurance covers it or do I want to drive away and hope I can afford the repair bill? Got to pay Uncle Elon."
The totally unbiased @DougDeMuro happened to go on @X for the first time in 1.5 years and saw our discussion on his Tesla Roadster predictions. His response: - X is a shadow of its former self and the opposite of free speech or discourse at all. - much of our discussion is driven by bots - ā€œif it flys, I’ll eat my shortsā€ - ā€œit’s never going to come to market, we’re just going to make promises about what the future will hold.ā€ - ā€œRemember with the @Cybertruck where they promised it would get FSD, but you had to get it without it and then they'll update it later. Then it like never came for peopleā€ @carsandbids

My favorite part is when they say the Jaguar will be like a Rolls Royce on the inside with full self driving. I cannot tell if they’re being serious or sarcastic.

šŸ‘€ A record 24 Cybercabs spotted in @Tesla’s @robotaxi lot in Bellevue, WA, double the number just one month ago. A @Waymo Zeekr was spotted two blocks away. Both companies will vie for the lucrative Seattle rideshare market, home of the world’s highest rates!
Even more Cybercabs in Bellevue, WA. Seattle is the world’s most expensive Uber market and @robotaxi is going to dominate the market here.

M&A activity in the live events space keeps getting hotter as PE invest heavy in AI resistant businesses.
Woah Informa just bought Clarion Events from @blackstone for £2.24bn. Blackstone paid £600m in 2017. In the age of #AI, Informa is going all-in on live events, raising £940m in equity, and spinning off Taylor & Francis.

Doug’s co-host @theryanlopez promises to come on X and defend Doug. I’m actually a long-time fan of @DougDeMuro. Pre-pandemic, I had seen every single one of his videos, enjoyed his articles on Deadspin, and followed him to Autotrader. I love his style. So here are some requests for Ryan to ask Doug: • Please review FSD. Doug has repeatedly claimed every modern car has equivalent ADAS functionality. Let’s see if that’s accurate. • When reviewing non-Tesla EVs, he often compares them to other non-Tesla EVs but fails to compare them to the world’s best-selling EV. Why? • Review the original 2012–2015 Model S. Doug has ignored this car and said he’d review it once you can buy one for $10k, which is now the case. • Doug’s recent review of the new Model Y was of the most basic version. Why not review the Performance or Premium trim of the world’s best-selling car? • Review the 2027 Model 3 Performance and compare it to its German rivals. • Review the 2027 Cyberbeast or Standard Cybertruck. There are a massive number of changes over the Foundation Series he reviewed almost three years ago. • Accurately share the Cybertruck’s market value. Doug has said these used to cost $200k, that you can now get one for $50k, and that they will be $35k next year. This is totally false, and it’s proven by @carsandbids’s own sales results. After the car launched, there were about three publicly shared purchases above $200k, but every buyer had the option to order one direct from Tesla with $0 markup and take delivery within about six months. The cheapest AWD Cybertruck to ever sell on your site was $64k after fees, and trade-in values for the original $79,900 MSRP trucks are above $70k.
