The Israeli election has punctured the @Polymarket myth. In the US and elsewhere, the prediction platform has scored elections better than traditional pollsters. On Israel, Polymarket failed. @gadi_eisenkot was 68%, @netanyahu 19%. Israeli politics: where smart money goes to die.

Israeli election: Early results, with 41% of polling stations returned, indicate a much closer 60-60 split than the 70-50 defeat for @netanyahu predicted by most polls and high turnout. So my commentary yesterday, based on those false premises, was way off. Apologies.

Israeli election voter turnout continues to soar with 66.7% voting as of 18.00, the highest on record and nine points higher than the previous election.

BYE-BYE BIBI The Israeli election turnout in Tel Aviv today points to a massive shift away from the @netanyahu government. By 4pm, more than 50% of Tel Avivians had voted, compared to a final total of 59.6% in 2022. Tel Aviv's sleeping electorate leans Left and has finally woken.

The blatant racism of @Netanyahu as he scrambles for political survival is disgusting. He's nominally the prime minister of these Arab citizens, who comprise about 20% of Israel's electorate. He's a gift to every antisemite banging on about Israel's "apartheid" and "ethno-state."

Huge turnout in Israeli election on track to break decades-old records. Turnout at 1600 was 55.7%, compared to 47.5% in 2022, 42.3% in 2021. @netanyahu under extreme pressure.

Huge Israeli voter turnout sends @netanyahu scrambling for racist, apocalyptic memes that echo his election slogan "Right or Palestine" (it rhymes in Hebrew: "Yamin o Falastin"). 44.9% turnout at 14.00 is highest ever recorded in Israel. (2022: 38.9%, 2021: 25.4%)

Israel election: 16.68% voter turnout at 10.00AM, significantly higher than recent elections.

Very proud of my friend Lucie who was bullied for being a Jew at the BBC and was made redundant just days after winning the corporation an Oscar. Watch her video below

The BBC has agreed to pay £400,000 to an award-winning Jewish documentary-maker who alleged she was subjected to antisemitism and pushed out of the corporation after October 7. Lucie Kon, 57, spent 22 years at the BBC and worked on programmes including Panorama, Today, BBC Breakfast and Storyville. Films she commissioned or helped produce won an Oscar, Emmy and Bafta. Kon says her treatment changed dramatically after the Hamas attacks. She alleges colleagues described Zionists like her as “evil”, argued that Israel should be called terrorist if Hamas was, and told her to consider what had driven Hamas to carry out the massacre. When she proposed a documentary about October 7, Kon says she was told she was “too partial” to oversee it because she was Jewish. She subsequently filed a formal grievance, but a BBC investigation rejected her complaint. Kon says she was then kept away from work for months. During a restructuring, her position was made redundant and she failed to secure the similar role replacing it. She launched unfair-dismissal proceedings. The BBC has now agreed substantial compensation, reported as £400,000, without admitting liability or accepting that Kon suffered antisemitism. Kon says Jewish employees still at the corporation continue to face hostility and feel unable to identify openly as Jewish or Zionist.

I’d like to apologise. The last week has finally made me understand that the real victims of the shocking rise in antisemitism are not Jewish people (and Jewish school children in particular) but Owen Jones, Sarah Helm and Sally Rooney. I hope they’re ok and I’m very sorry for having got this wrong.

Please bear with this slightly long post because it is one hell of an illustration of Israel-derangement syndrome in Ireland. An international conference of 'Special Envoys & Coordinators Combating Antisemitism' is currently taking place in Ireland. There was a reception for delegates this evening at the Department of Foreign Affairs. Maurice Cohen of the Irish Jewish Representative Council told the delegates and other guests that he had booked 70 rooms at the Herbert Park Hotel for delegates. But once the hotel discovered what the event was for, they cancelled the booking asking if the conference had a connection to the IDF. (It doesn't, and what a bizarre question to ask). How deeply ironic that this should happen to delegates attending a conference dedicated to fighting anti-Semitism. What this does say about today's Ireland? Nothing good. This story is eminently newsworthy. Journalists should contact Maurice Cohen. (The hotel should be sued). @Alan__Shatter @abrahamson_ed @RachelMoiselle

They gave Navi Pillay a Nobel Prize for her report saying that on October 7th, it was Israel that attacked Hamas. 👇
Replying to @Aizenberg55
10/7 is erased. Entire incident is presented as an Israeli attack, the reader won't know what happened. Hamas is erased too. They do not exist in the report. They are only even mentioned first 8 pages deep, and only and always in the context of Israeli claims & statements. 2/

Today I've resigned as Coordinator of my local Green Party. I've poured so much into this party over the years. Evenings, weekends, campaigning, organising. I've genuinely given it everything. I could stay quiet and sit on the sidelines, but that's just not me. If I think something is wrong, I'll say it. Since speaking out I've had hundreds of abusive and threatening messages. Some are serious enough that I'll be taking them to the police. And to people in the party who have the same concerns as me, please don't stay silent. Speak up. It matters. I'm genuinely gutted it's come to this, but I have to stand by what I believe.

We got an early taste of New York Magazine's new direction in the days after 10/7. In September 2023, we got a call: my husband @BenZevG would be featured in @NYMag's list of the most powerful New Yorkers. A (lovely) reporter interviewed multiple people about our synagogue. Mark Peterson came to take pictures of services right after Yom Kippur. The piece was filed. Then came 10/7. That Friday, we got another call. He'd been cut. "Editors got spooked," we were told. This was a little story about a shul drawing young Jews back to faith. It had nothing to do with the Middle East. Overnight, New York Jews like us -- Orthodox, deeply connected to our ancestral homeland -- had become untouchable. It was chilling. I sensed, in that moment, that this would be the beginning of Jews being pushed out of cultural institutions, and eventually, erased. So if you ever wondered why that list had 49 names instead of 50, now you know. They cut the rabbi.
