I've gotten responses that make me want to make one thing perfectly clear: I am a writer. I've been writing fanfiction since 2008, I have over a 1mil words posted on AO3, and I've seen websites I wrote on in the past (Quizilla) vanish in an instant and take *my work* with them.

My take on the AO3 downloading & distribution discourse is this: The corporatization of the internet has given people engagement brainworms. In my 30+ years online, I don't think I've EVER been more sad to see any aspect of internet culture develop firsthand.
