Building this from zero — no shortcuts, no gatekeeping, just consistent daily work. I've stumbled and come back stronger before, and I'll keep doing it until I get there. SOC analyst in progress, penetration tester ahead. This account is the real, unfiltered process.
Day 58/100 🔐 Finished Cisco’s Endpoint Security course. Biggest lesson: encrypting a file means little if the login travels in clear text. #100DaysOfCyber #cybersecurity @malik_cybersec
Yesterday I said I'd hunt for a tampered file. Found it.
Day 57/100✅ hashed 6 backup files in Kali. 5 matched, SEclients.txt didn't. Flagged it for review.
Then HMAC on income.txt goes further: no secret key, no forged hash.

Can you tell if a file was changed after a cyber attack?
Day 56/100✅ today I'm using hashes to find a tampered file, then HMAC to verify integrity with a secret key.
Will share what I find.

Finished Endpoint Security Module 9 and got 100% on the quiz after a retake. Missing questions taught me more than getting them right. Module 10 next. #100DaysOfCyber #cybersecurity @malik_cybersec

Day54/100
Continuing my Cisco Networking Academy Endpoint Security course. Today: network-based malware protection. Next-gen firewalls, IPS, NAC, gateway security and endpoint protection, all layered together.
Next up: host-based intrusion prevention.

Day 53/100
Reading about network perimeter security: hardened router with VPN, next-gen firewall, IPS, AAA server, and email/web security appliances, all working together.
No single device covers everything. That's why layered defense matters.

Kali is built to attack. Today I pointed a security auditor at it instead.
Ran Lynis on my own VM to see how hardened it really is. Learning to read warnings vs suggestions is a different skill from hacking.

Day 51/100 🔐
Opened SciTE from the terminal and my prompt vanished. Nothing broke: the terminal was busy running SciTE and only came back once I closed it.
Small lesson, but the CLI is starting to click.

Two critical vulnerabilities have been identified in PHP, a widely used programming language that powers websites and web applications. These vulnerabilities (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619) could allow malicious cyber actors to remotely execute code in PHP core, potentially compromising sensitive data and networks.
The FBI urges organizations to take the following steps now:
➡️ If an immediate update is not feasible it is recommended that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated.
➡️ Immediately update affected PHP installations following the guidance on php.net. Inventory where PHP runs in your environment, prioritizing internet-facing systems and vendor products that bundle PHP.
➡️ Monitor web servers for suspicious activity, including PHP processes unexpectedly launching command shells or downloading files. Ensure appropriate process-monitoring capabilities are in place to help identify potential exploitation.
➡️ If you find signs of compromise, isolate affected systems, preserve your web server and PHP logs, and report it to your local FBI field office or ic3.gov. Those reports help us identify the actors involved and warn other organizations before they become victims.
For the latest information, follow PHP’s announcement on php.net, CERT-EU Security Advisory 2026-018, and CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog.

edited the Windows registry on purpose in a lab (made a test key, changed a value, even typo'd the name). Also learned a file can look empty and still hide data. Loving this.
