Undated postcard from our archive collection showing the #EmpireTheatre which became the #Gaumont by 1950, then the #MayflowerTheatre in 1987. At the time of opening in 1928 it was the biggest theatre on the south coast #ArchiveSecrets #Southampton #1900s @mayflower
ALT Sepia postcard showing an exterior view of the Empire Theatre. The text in the bottom left-hand corner reads ‘Empire Theatre. Southampton.’ The theatre building is in the centre, seen across a road and partly obscured by a large tree, on the left-hand side of the picture. Above the main theatre entrance are four storeys, with five windows on each. Either side of the building has turret-like structures and to the right is a smaller building, attached to the theatre, with a large entrance.
