My opinion piece, recently published in Newsweek. Grateful for the opportunity to share our Yuma story with a broader audience, and to shine light on the true impacts of the migrant crisis at our border. We need federal action to solve this federal issue.

Yuma City Councilmember Gary Knight has passed away today at 11:37 am, in the company of his family while at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix. Given the devastating loss, the City continues to ask that privacy be upheld for the Knight family during this difficult time.
Charges have been filed against 22yo Angel Alvarado for both the train depot & house structure fires. It is good to bring justice, yet it will never replace the historic building. Great work by @yumapolice1 and @YumaFireDept. I'm grateful for their incredible investature work!
A sad day today to see one of the historic buildings (old railroad depot) w/ redevelopment potential in Yuma Downtown South be destroyed by fire. The great work of our Yuma Fire Department prevented it from spreading. I expect those responsible will be brought to justice soon!

"It takes that process out of not just the hands of the city but the people of @cityofyuma. Because they have no voice..." @MayorNicholls warns that not having a local say in density & 🏘️ types makes it difficult to prepare for things like🚰& sewer lines, even🚨 responses & parking become difficult to plan for. @KYMA11
