1/ Our longform response to the draft conversion practice bill is now available on our website at gaymensnetwork.co.uk/.
This bill is broad, unnecessary and offers poorer protection to gay people than existing laws. It is a bill about gender ideology, not gay rights.
80-90% of the young patients at the Tavistock were same sex attracted
The misleadingly named "conversion ban" will make it a crime to say to a teenager "I think you are gay and I want you to grow up accepting your body, I do not think you are the opposite sex"
This is bad law

An excellent letter from the Gay Men’s Network that highlights the dangers Conversion Practices legislation represents to gay men, to lesbians and to the parents of gay teens.

1/ We’ve written to the Secretary of State for Equalities concerning misinformation that appeared in an article she wrote over the weekend. It’s important that the debate around the draft conversion bill is accurate and the Minister should promote this.

9/ We have highlighted fundamental issues with the draft conversion bill. It makes it a crime to say to a distressed teenager, “I think you are a lesbian, not a trans man” if a jury find that to be abusive after the fact. Our longform analysis of the bill is available on our site

Brilliant thread exposing the clown show happening in Stormont this week and next
1/ The GMN analysis of the Conversion Practices (Criminalisation) Bill (NI) is now available on our website.
This Private Member's Bill is legally incoherent and it offers worse protections for gay men and lesbians than existing NI law.

6/ The clause 1 offence of performing conversion therapy is so badly drafted it extends beyond the medical sphere and captures any person offering "instruction". That term is not defined and could include parents, employers, speakers etc.
9/ The Bill does not comply with human rights. It compels belief, it says parents may only affirm, it allows only affirmative thought and speech, it discriminates against watchful wating and gender critical points of view and it is incoherent legally contrary to Article 7
4/ The drafting of this bill is extremely poor. Parents, teachers, employers or public speakers can be prosecuted for "suppressing" and identity, but the bill defines neither the terms. That is an extraordinary level of ambiguity in criminal legislation.
