AI in robotics gets all the attention right now, but sometimes the most interesting work is very practical. Viet built a small vision system that counts potatoes on a conveyor belt. No giant dataset. No huge model. Just a clear problem and a smart setup. He used Ultralytics’ ObjectCounter, trained a tiny YOLO11 nano model, and because there was no potato dataset, he annotated a single frame with SAM 2 and trained from that. One frame. Still works across the whole video. It is a good reminder that useful AI in industry often looks like this. Focused. Lightweight. Solves a real task. If you work in manufacturing or robotics, these small systems are usually the fastest wins. They save time, reduce errors, and do not need massive infrastructure. Nice work, Viet. Wild usecase of robotics. An exoskeleton moves a expert pianist’s fingers at high speed, nudging them to execute faster keystrokes than they normally can, so the brain gets used to a higher “speed setting” and can break past a performance plateau.

Robots with tentacles! 🐙 SpiRobs are soft robots inspired by nature, designed in the shape of a logarithmic spiral. They mimic the flexible movements of octopus arms and elephant trunks to grasp objects. 🐘 SpiRobs use simple cables to move, making them easy to control and operate. They can scale from small to large sizes, ranging from centimeters to meters. The robots can adapt to different object shapes, improving their grasping ability. A mini version can act as a tiny gripper, while a large version can be mounted on drones. Interestingly, multiple robots can work together to wrap around and hold large objects. That's just out of this world! 😮‍💨 ~~ ♻️ Join the weekly robotics newsletter, and never miss any news → ziegler.substack.com

Alpha Capital is excited to announce our strategic investment in @meshneuro. @meshneuro is building a critical intelligence layer for on-robot AI, enabling machines to learn and operate locally while contributing to a decentralized collective intelligence. We believe this architecture provides a scalable, privacy-first foundation for the next generation of autonomous systems. We’re proud to support the team as they execute on their long-term vision. We’re excited to announce that NeuroMesh has secured a $5M investment in our Strategic Round at a $50M valuation, with participation from @alphacapital_vc and @CoinvestorV. NeuroMesh is powering embodied AI with an on-device intelligence stack, so robots can perceive, plan, and execute in real time without relying on the cloud, while their learnings propagate into a decentralized collective brain that improves across the network. This moves us closer to a world where autonomy is native, verifiable, and shared. Massive thanks to our investors, partners, and community for backing the mission. The new era of on-robot intelligence has begun.

An autonomous @rivr_tech delivery robot being tested in Pittsburgh. Snow, ice, hills and stairs everywhere: it was genuinely feeling dangerous as a human to go outside at times. Really a great stress test for the robots.

🤯incredible, its playability and usability are outstanding. Tron2 is a LEGO robot. It can be assembled into various forms depending on the scenario, including bipedal, wheeled, and humanoid torso configurations, and its end effectors are also interchangeable. Each form of the robot is driven by a VLA model. It can perform complex movements and can also be integrated into existing workflows to perform tasks. It's worth mentioning that this solves the problem of which type of humanoid robot to use. Each user can assemble the robot in a configuration that suits their specific scenario, making it truly flexible and versatile – it doesn't necessarily have to be bipedal or wheeled... I look forward to seeing more real-world use cases.
LimX's new humanoid robot, Tron's evolution: Tron2, features dexterous hands with two arms and a head... it looks flexible and agile, ready for future tasks. However, it looks more like a humanoid data acquisition system.

Kawasaki Heavy Industries has been developing Kaliedo for 10 years, spanning 9 generations since 2015, but it remains in the concept and prototype stage. Will it be retired after ten years like Boston Hydraulics' Atlas? This humanoid robot is intended for rescue operations. However, practical application is at least 5 years away: 2030: Medical care and simple factory work 2040: Expanding to mechanical assembly and high-altitude operations Finally, achieving comprehensive response to complex disaster environments by 2050.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries unveils next-generation humanoid rescue robot: Kaleido 9 This is the ninth generation of Kaleido. It was showcased at the 2025 International Robotics Demonstration Center, demonstrating how to perform disaster relief operations: For example, rescuing a cat in a kitchen, moving steel frames, clearing obstacles, and other emergency tasks. In the future, it will replace firefighters, entering disaster scenes to protect their lives. Currently, on-site operation is done remotely by humans wearing VR headsets, which is still inefficient. Kawasaki Heavy Industries stated that Kaleido 9 has been under development for nearly ten years and is currently still in the testing phase, with future plans for practical application. Japan is currently restructuring its domestic humanoid robot industry chain and has formed a humanoid robot alliance to compete with China and the United States. After all, Japan was once a leader in the field of humanoid robots.
