Ata mārie! Plenty of clear skies this morning 🌤️, although a little bit of early morning fog in the valleys. The satellite image below shows some cloud in the west, associated with a few showers. 🌦️ The main weather feature for today is waiting in the wings just to the southwest of the country (seen as the white and red cloud band in the satellite image just off Stewart Island). This is a cold front, and it will make an appearance on the lower South Island through the second half of the day. Expect strong northwesterly winds just head of it, rain along the front, and cooler southwesterlies behind. 💨→ 🌧️→🥶 Find your latest forecast: metservice.com

Can you match the cloud with what you can see in the satellite imagery? 🛰️☁️ We love it when you send us your cool cloud and weather photos. 📸 This one was taken over the long weekend at Waitārere Beach, and we thought it'd be cool to go back and try to spot it in our satellite feeds too! Don't forget! We're always collecting submissions for Cloud of the Week! Whether it's a dramatic storm or a quirky cloud shape, send us your weather snaps - we'd love to see them! 🌤️✨

🌡️ Did you know? That yesterday Dunedin saw its warmest night in October in 54 years. Smashing previous records out of the park! 📈🔥 However, those warm and cosy temperatures were short lived. The passage of a front has plummeted Dunedin temperatures from a high of 26°C yesterday to a forecasted high of just 13°C today. And an overnight minimum temperature of 6°C. ❄️ What a temperature rollercoaster! 🎢🌦️

🌧️💨 Mōrena Aotearoa! It’s a wet and very windy start for the centre of the country, due to a front that’s been making it’s way northwards overnight. 📉 Here’s a radar loop showing the rain band sweeping up the country from midnight to 7am today. 🌪️ What the radar doesn't show are severe gale northwesterlies currently gusting through Nelson, Wellington, and Wairarapa this morning. With the likes of Wellington Airport gusting 113km/hr at 4am. ⚠️ Severe Weather Warnings and Watches are still in force for central regions with the last Heavy Rain Warning for the Tararua Range clearing by 11 am and the last of the Strong Wind Watches and Warnings finishing at 1pm. ☀️ It's a repeat of yesterday! And the day before.... and the day before. 😴 Settled conditions continue across the country today as a ridge of high pressure continues to dominate. 🌤️ Some areas see a layer of cloud this morning, but that’ll start to burn off as the sun gets cooking. 🔥🌞

The sun is working hard today! ☀️ As the sun shines on the clouds from above, it works at evaporating them by lifting the air temperature, while the dew point stays constant🌡️ Here we can see low cloud and fog disappearing from the North Island, and cloud thinning over the sea ☁️ It'll be the same story for the rest of the week before a front arrives on Monday. Head to metservice.com for your forecast 👆
