Sharing the same species does not mean sharing the same moral character, behavior, or responsibility. Dahmer was a human being. So were his victims. Their humanity isnt less important because they were murdered, and his humanity doesn't make his actions any less reprehensible.

There's a massive difference between acknowledging that nobody is incapable of every conceivable wrongdoing and suggesting that anyone could plausibly become a serial killer simply by failing to examine their moral compass. The latter is an enormous leap.
