In 2025, the Mets put up 46.0 fWAR. As currently constructed, @fangraphs projects them to put up 46.7 in 2026. Are they done? #LGM

The Mets made a big pivot today and showed: We're in the business of big bats on short deals. What do you mean, "position"? Here's how Bo Bichette fits with the Mets (and David Stearns) 🧵👇 #LGM

Do the Mets swing too late? Statcast now tracks a ton of swing data, and we can see where batters are standing in the box, how quickly they swing, at what angle the bat hits the ball, and more. Some of the Mets’ MLB ranks this season: 📐29th in attack direction (horizontal “pull” angle when bat hits ball) 📐25th in depth in batter’s box (standing “up” in the box) 📐30th in intercept point (how far in front of the batter the bat and ball make contact) Though the Mets have had an exceptional rate of “quality contact” (3rd both average exit velocity, hard hit rate, and barrel rate - which includes launch angle too!), they’ve had unexceptional results (13th in wOBA and 16th in runs). Already hard hitting and in the air, is this the part of their approach impacting how efficient their quality contact truly is? 🧵 #LGM

The Mets are the MLB's base stealing outliers! Not only do they lead MLB (by far) in stolen base success rate, they're doing it as the 2nd-slowest team in MLB, per @statcast. They even rank top 10 in volume of stolen bases overall! #LGM
The Mets have stolen 26 consecutive bases w/o being caught. They are 85 / 95 (89%) on the year Francisco Lindor: 17 SB in 19 ATT Juan Soto: 14 SB in 15 ATT Brandon Nimmo: 13 SB in 14 ATT Luisangel Acuña: 12 SB in 13 ATT They're doing this while being the 2nd slowest team in MLB

What will Gregory Soto bring to the Mets? This season since AJ Minter was injured on 4/26, the Mets rank: 👈23rd in relief LHP innings 👈16th in relief LHP ERA 👈16th in relief LHP barrel% Soto is one of the better lefty relievers in all of baseball, and he fits the the Jeremy Hefner mold of keeping hard contact out of the air! The Mets pitching staff ranks 5th in MLB with 7.9% barrel rate allowed this year, overall but that drops to: 🛢️9th for their LHP 🛢️14th for their relievers 🛢️17th overall since losing Minter Soto fits into the coaching staff’s identity while strengthening that identity’s personnel weak spot - his 4.3% barrel rate allowed is 94th percentile, and he’s only allowed 2 home runs all season. #LGM

How good was the Mets' "Big 4" in the first half of the year? By fWAR, the franchise's best in 17 years. Looking at the top 4 Mets position players in 1st-half fWAR since 2000, Lindor/Alonso/Soto/Nimmo were in rare company. What do they have in store next? 🚪🐻‍❄️🔀🐟 #LGM

Jeff McHits! Many people wrote off McNeil this season, asking for everyday at bats for younger players. But he’s rewarded the faith of the coaching staff (and been one of their success stories) by picking up where he left off the second half of last year! 🐿️🧵⬇️ #LGM

The classic counting stats look horrific, but there's much more to Mark Vientos' season so far, and he's actually been trending positively in many ways (deep) under the surface. Primed for a breakout? 🌬️🧵👇 #LGM

Will this be the year Francisco Lindor finally starts hot? Over his Met career, Lindor has been a notoriously slow starter at the plate. Charting out his 30-game rolling wRC+, by season and with an overall seasonal average, he's consistently been a below-average hitter through May and June, and exploded mid-summer. With 0 hits or walks in his first 9 plate appearances this season, Lindor will look to flip his script soon with the best lineup protection he's had as a Met! 🚪 #LGM

Juan Soto doesn't always swing - but what makes him more dangerous when he does? A big part is his ultra-rare success rate at squaring up the ball, relative to his bat speed. 🧵👇 #LGM

With rosters starting to crystallize, the best division is baseball is shaping up to be another wide-open three-horse race in 2025. Taking a look at how the positional groups stack up based on @fangraphs Depth Charts' projected fWAR - who stands out? #LGM

The Mets parted with 3 pitching prospects to trade their 29-year-old 102 wRC+ righty DH for a 36-year old 105 wRC+ righty DH. Ruf hits LHP far better (151 wRC+ to JD's 99), but struggles against RHP (72 wRC+; 105). A low leverage move, yes, but not a deal I'd call a win. #LGM
The Mets are giving up LHP Thomas Szapucki, LHP Nick Zwack, RHP Carson Seymour, and J.D. Davis to the Giants for Darin Ruf per @Joelsherman1 Both Zwack and Seymour were 2021 draft picks and in my midseason top 30 Mets prospects.

With the acquisition of Carlos Correa, the Mets have turned maybe their biggest weakness, 3B, into their biggest strength. But in the toughest division in baseball, New York is far from a runaway favorite. How do the new-look Mets stack up, per Steamer fWAR projections? #LGM

It's happening. Carlos Correa, All-Star, Platinum Glove, is a Met. What it says about Steve Cohen and the direction of the franchise is enormous. But focusing on Correa the player - who he is & how he fits with the Mets - the (long) breakdown you've been waiting for 🧵👇 #LGM

Biggest improvement by a center fielder in outs above average over a 2-year span in the statistic's 7-year history: Delino DeSheilds '16-'18, +12 George Springer '17-'19, +10 🐟Brandon Nimmo '20-'22, +9 (so far) #LGM
Brandon Nimmo went from the bottom 10% of all outfielders to Gold Glove caliber centerfielder in a two-year span. Absolutely astonishing
