33 MOMENTS BEFORE 33
DAY 27/33
And the Winner Is… Laycon!
I spent ten weeks in the Big Brother house, but the funny thing is, I never actually went in there thinking I was going to win.
In fact, I didn’t even go in with winning as my goal. I went in to promote my project, Who Is Laycon? EP. That was the plan.
So, from week one to week two, week three, all the way to the final week, I kept asking myself the same question: Why am I still here?
Every time I survived eviction, I would tell myself, “Okay, one more week. Let me enjoy myself, promote my music and make the most of this experience.” I was taking it one week at a time. I genuinely had no idea how far I would go.
Then came the finale.
I remember seeing Dorathy in her gown and thinking to myself, “This girl looks beautiful. She’s definitely going to win.” The gown was elegant, she looked amazing, and I had already convinced myself that the crown was hers.
As we stood on that stage waiting for Ebuka to announce the winner, I wasn’t even thinking about winning. Honestly, I was tired. I just wanted to leave the house and experience life outside those walls. I couldn’t wait to move on to the next phase of my life.
Then Ebuka called my name.
I remember moving backwards in complete shock. I couldn’t process what had just happened. Ebuka came over to me and said, “Bro, you just won. Scream!”
That’s when I screamed.
And just like that, everything changed.
I don’t think I even understood the magnitude of what had happened at that moment. The victory overwhelmed me so much that it almost numbed me. And the next six months to a year of my life moved at an incredible pace. Everything was happening so quickly, and I was trying to understand and experience this completely new reality.
Looking back, I genuinely cannot forget that day. It was the day an experience I had entered for one reason changed the entire direction of my life.
To everyone who voted, supported me, believed in me and played a part in getting me to that point, thank you. I appreciate every single one of you. Above all, I am grateful to God Almighty for the opportunity and the journey.
I didn’t go into that house expecting to win. But I walked out with something that changed my life forever.
And for that, I will always be grateful.

I stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk the runway for the incredibly talented Ugo Monye at Lagos Fashion Week.
Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity and culture and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth.

They will disagree. Back in 1979, when my grandfather, Chief S. O. Gbadamosi was endorsing Jakande as the choice of his leader, Awolowo, some doubted him.
Chief Ganiyu Olawale Dawodu, of blessed memory, who actually won the primary election, also conceded to Jakande for a reason.
Today, 43 years after Jakande was forced out of office by Buhari, who tried to sabotage all his projects, Jakande is still being spoken of with reverence.
I was raised by men who made, lived and witnessed history. I understand what Yorubas call Àtunbọ̀tán (legacy). That is why I have always applied myself diligently to whatever vision God has ever chosen to give me.
I have always envisioned a Lagos State, and indeed Nigeria, that is primus inter pares in the comity of Nations.
One of my personal goals is to see that happen in my lifetime.
When I see what those who snatch, grab and run away with power in Lagos State are doing, my heart aches with the pain of KNOWING that we can do so much better with what we have. Indeed, we have done so much better in the past.
The ambition of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour to lead Lagos State, which I have supported, is, to my mind, a divine arrangement, where our need for a better planned Lagos has met with the ambition of a young, experienced architect who just so happens to be a bona-fide son of Lagos without the stain of Tinubuism.
From my own experience as a real estate developer, (which some might deride as small scale, compared to running a state), good planning is the foundation of all sensible development (pun intended).
Alhaji Jakande had no prior experience of public administration, and thus had not been polluted by any bad habits from the public sector, just like @GRVlagos and I. You will agree that the public sector in Lagos State is now completely polluted by rabid Tinubuism, and can only be rescued by its excision.
We come with fresh minds, fresh ideas and a determination to drag our Lagos, kicking and screaming if need be, into a future of self-perpetuating prosperity.
The Àtunbọ̀tán we leave behind is far more important to us than any material consideration.
Linguistic fluency is a good thing, without a doubt, but more important in the larger scheme of things are excellence, competence, character, capacity, compassion and above all, COMMITMENT.
All of these and LOYALTY to Lagos, are qualities I share and I have observed in Gbadebo since 2019, when I first met him at the Ikeja GRA Community Debate, held at Radisson Blu.
We are determined to build a Lagos of which the entire black race can be proud, and I am convinced that if we all work together, we can most certainly Make Èkó Great Again.

But how did Alhaji Lateef Jakande achieve so much in less than 4 years?
No excess crude, no huge IGR, no loans, yet he built houses, schools, hospitals, & a university.
It proves leadership is not about time or resources, but about sincerity, vision, and discipline.
