444 FOI Requests, 4+ Years: The Real Data on Single-Sex Spaces.
Over the past 4+ years, the debate about trans women accessing single-sex spaces (such as hospital wards, public toilets, and changing rooms) has dominated the headlines and policy discussions.
But when we set aside the culture-war rhetoric, what do the real data from public service providers show?
TransLucent has been seeking answers for nearly five years.
Since 2021, TransLucent has conducted seven comprehensive Freedom of Information investigations.
We submitted 444 FOI requests to public bodies across the UK - including 180 NHS acute and mental health trusts, all 62 unitary authorities, and the 50 largest local councils - covering tens of millions of people.
We asked one straightforward question: How many complaints have you received about trans women using female single-sex spaces?
Of the 444 requests sent over nearly five years, more than 98% of responding public bodies reported receiving zero complaints.
Across all councils and hospital trusts surveyed, we found just four complaints - 4 complaints in nearly FIVE YEARS
One involved a minor inpatient issue at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, which wasn’t escalated beyond the initial stage.
One was a single complaint in York.
One in Sheffield was based on perception rather than fact.
That’s four recorded complaints over nearly five years, spanning healthcare facilities and local government services for tens of millions of people.
The evidence consistently shows that official data does not support claims of widespread or systemic issues in these spaces.
Good policy starts with good data, and @TransLucent_Org will keep tracking this information as structures and guidance evolve, because evidence matters.

At 18 I called Hadley Freeman my reason for studying journalism. Her column complains there's no "representation" for drag sceptics, then misrepresents a show that isn't ending and an interview about clubs closing as one about "the financial sector." Some column. Some journalist.
Today’s @thetimes column is about the end of Drag Race UK
Drag Race is off to the scrap yard. About time

Considering the BBC has cancelled #dragraceuk today I want to remind the world of this clip and why a show like this was so vital to so many queer individuals who found home in the show. Let’s hope and dream it’ll reach linear tv again.

The so called LGB Alliance is, once again, lying about what the draft Bill actually does. An offence is only created where conduct is abusive and causes serious harm, alarm or distress with a substantial effect on the person’s day-to-day activities.
Ignore these charlatans.
In the 1950’s and 60’s some people thought homosexuality should be ‘treated’ with hormone injections.
Sadly, despite all the advances in gay rights, some people still think that.
The draft Conversion Practices bill could make it safer to tell someone “yes, you have been born in the wrong body” rather than ask questions about why they feel that way - including the fact that they might be struggling to accept that they’re LGB.
This law could end up enforcing the very thing it claims to seek to ban.
In 2026, young people growing up to be gay deserve better than this. Much better.

“The Jason Arday story has been delicious.”
In my opinion, people like this Spiked Online goon, Jo Bartosch, should sit somewhere quietly and take a good, long, hard look at themselves.
The Jason Arday story has been delicious. But the problem goes well beyond race and academia. Would Andrea Long Chu, a vicious, porn-addled misogynist, really have won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Criticism if he hadn’t claimed to be a woman?
Woman-hate is widely regarded as a sign of edgy brilliance, and its totally acceptable so long as the man spouting it has changed his pronouns.

ceo of lgb alliance here defending gb news platforming and broadcasting people saying gay men were more prone to sexual deviancy and to sexually assaulting their adoptive children, and that pride events were celebrations of bestiality and paedophilia...
I dunno but if there's anything worse than speculating on a celebrity's sexuality, it's writing and publishing an SEO article about it and hoping to make ad revenue off the Google traffic
