France has the highest social spending of any country in the world
A nice old building burns, and so the pearl-clutching begins. Where were these pearl clutchers when austerity was wrecking a generation? Why does one town hall grab their attention but millions of schools, hospitals, and homes dilapidated by neoliberalism are of no importance?
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
France's level of public social spending was third highest in the world at 30.6% of GDP in 2024. Excluding the pandemic, it is slightly down from its 31.9% high in 2014. Total public spending is 57.2%, second highest among large countries not at war and near all-time highs.

The trade paradox
If a communist country fails its because the capitalist west won't trade with them
But if a country liberalizes their economy and opens up trade it will destroy that country

Socialists discovered that corporations have too much power and proposed merging your employer, landlord and grocery store into one institution with a police force and military.

The boomer politicians found a roundabout way of giving the boomers even more money and the boomers use it to pretend they have no responsibility for the financial mess they’re handing their children.

You falsely claimed libertarians focus mostly on “weed and porn and everything destructive.” That I’ve commented on the first two—and disagree with you on them—does not prove they are a primary focus.
The primary focus of libertarianism is not any substantive issue; it’s process. It’s about eliminating arbitrary coercion and letting people pursue their own ends within general rules of just conduct.
That process is based in humility. It’s a philosophy that respects tradition and family while providing space for people to challenge the status quo.

The only type of "human rights" are Negative Rights. Negative rights are thst which require others from refraining from interfering with. (You have the right to life, because no one has the right to take that from you, you have the right to your property, because no one has the right to take your stuff, you have the right to your own beliefs, opinions, and to speak them freely because no one has the right to silence you. Similarly, you have the right to identify how you wish, engage in consensual activities with other willing participants and the like, because no one has the right to interfere with your life, in that way, and so on)
What you don't have is "positive rights" ie the right to other people's labor or the product of other people's labor. Because a claim on the "right" to the product of another person's labor(no matter how mean their refusal might sound) is, ultimately, a violation of *their* rights to be free of interference.(and what is a "right" to someone's labor other than a euphemism for slavery?)
