Today Trump told what might have been his biggest lie yet, and that's no small feat. He claimed the last two years have been the greatest, most financially successful two years in the history of the presidency. I guess it wasn't a lie if he was speaking only about his own family.

55 years ago today, Nixon lied to the American people, saying he was "temporarily" suspending the dollar's convertibility into gold.
What he actually did was subject the country to a grand economic experiment, one that has caused significant economic harm to most families.
Since then, the dollar has lost over 80% of its purchasing power and the national debt has exploded from under $400 billion to over $40 trillion.
Under a gold standard, governments are restrained from simply printing fiat currency because of the limited supply of specie (gold) to back it. With that standard removed, the US could print as much as it wanted, without restraint.
And it has. Under a "temporary" suspension that persists 55 years later.
