Kicking off the holiday season with our end-year celebration lab lunch!
Grateful for everyone’s hard work and dedication this year—our lab truly feels like a family. Here’s to more discoveries and shared successes in the year ahead! 🥂
Join us this Friday as Dr. Andrea Azcarate-Peril presents a seminar for IGHID/CFAR on “Microbiome Research: Impact on Human Health.”
Location: 1131 Bioinformatics
Time: 9:15-10AM
🎄Let’s end the year together with an inspiring talk! Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season!
🎓 Huge congratulations to Dr. Mashael @Mesheal_RJ
Rocking those caps, gowns, and big smiles because today is all about success and new beginnings. So proud of you!
Join us for December’s First Friday Microbiome Seminar #FFM on Dec. 6 at noon in Marsico 2004 (in person). This is the last FFM for 2024! Two fantastic speakers will present their work. See the thread below for detailed introductions of each speaker. 🧵
Dr. Shyamal Peddada is a Senior Investigator leading the Constrained Statistical Inference Group at @NIEHS
His group develops cutting-edge, user-friendly biostatistical methods, including ANCOM, ANCOM-BC, ANCOM-BC2, SECOM, ORIOGEN, CLME, ORIOS, and etc.
Ayesha Awan is a PhD candidate in #NCStateVetMed . Her dissertation explores how dietary proteins from various sources are transformed in the gut by host and microbial interactions—and how these transformations impact the host directly or via gut microbiota.
Has the two decades of research on the gut microbiome resulted in making healthier choices?

Big congrats to our undergrad student Nehal from @NutritionUNC for completing her research project! Her dedication, countless transformations, and hard work truly paid off. A stellar presentation showcasing her deep understanding of the project.
Well done! 👏
Check out our collaborators’ work on Giardia colonization shifts the balance of lactic acid bacteria and corresponds with a decrease in multiple indicators of mucosal and nutritional homeostasis.
Congratulations @BhattLab_InFimo 🥳

Jasjot’s research focuses on the impact of diet on gastrointestinal health. Jasjot’s clinical trial explores how eating two green kiwifruits daily might improve abdominal comfort and wellbeing for individuals with constipation-predominant IBS and functional constipation. 🥝
Our second speaker is @Mesheal_RJ. In her thesis research, she studied how the probiotic might support cognitive health in aging populations. 🧠
Her work dives into the role of microbial DPP-4 and its influence on cognition. Come and learn more about her work!
