A PS5 is now running macOS Monterey. Bare metal. No virtual machine.
Developer rodri0x has successfully booted Apple's XNU kernel directly on the PS5's AMD Zen 2 processor.
And this isn't just a boot screen.
- macOS Monterey 12.7.6 desktop
- All 8 CPU cores and 16 threads working
- 1440p display output
- Keyboard, mouse and trackpad support
- USB SSD boot
- Working Ethernet with a custom driver
The setup uses UEFI, OpenCore and a custom crash-kexec boot chain.
There's no GPU acceleration yet, and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HDMI audio aren't working.
Even more impressive? The developer used a TV as a debugging monitor because the PS5 has no UART.

BuildBox 2.1.6 is live ✅
The signing crash that got 2.1.5 pulled is fixed — large IPAs like Instagram now sign end to end, tested on device.
If your copy was signed with a different cert, delete it once and install fresh.

Quick heads-up: I pulled BuildBox 2.1.5 from GitHub. A bug slipped into the signing flow and it can crash the app on some IPAs.
2.1.4 is the latest again and signs fine. A fix is in the works — 2.1.6 lands only after it's been properly tested.
