FUN FACT FRIDAY: Polk State Volleyball's first Citrus win has been a five-set thriller over Eastern Florida State College two years in a row
After what has been a rough start to the 2026 season, Polk State Volleyball got off the schneid last week with a thrilling 3-2 win over Eastern Florida State College for its first victory of the season. It was also the first conference win for the Eagles, marking the second year in a row that the first Citrus Conference win came over the Titans in five sets.
Last season, Polk State picked up its first conference win under Head Coach Jessica Beal as the Eagles knocked off Eastern Florida State in another five-set thriller. Alexia Ortiz finished with 16 kills and four aces in that one as Polk State celebrated victory during its annual "Dig Pink" match.
Last week, Polk State was sparked by one of its biggest single-set comebacks ever as the Eagles rallied from 10 points down in the second set to tie the match. After splitting the next two sets, Polk State outlasted the Titans in the decisive fifth set, 18-16. Camilla Freitag and Adriauna Combs each finished with 12 kills for the Eagles. Castano narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with nine kills and 12 digs. Chillis Oke had a strong night with six kills and five total blocks. Jasmine Mahoney filled up the box score with 20 assists, four aces, and eight digs. Ana Martinez also had a nice all-around match with 13 digs and seven assists. Polk State hopes to knock off Eastern Florida State again on Friday night as it begins the FCSAA Tournament in Melbourne.

Though the record is 5-6-2, it was a solid year for Polk State with a 1-1 draw against 2-time reigning national champ Daytona State College and its first road win over Eastern Florida State College in 16 years. The Eagles were also nationally ranked for the first time since 2022.
Polk State Soccer’s championship dreams came to an end on Thursday night as the Eagles were defeated by top-seeded Miami Dade College in the FCSAA Tournament semifinals, 5-0.
