Today is my birthday. 5 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a huge brain tumour. The only reason I am standing here today & able to celebrate is because of our phenomenal NHS and the awe-inspiring & dedicated people who work within it. This year I don’t want cards, gifts, flowers...

It’s estimated that one in five women in the UK will experience a miscarriage in their lifetime.
But if you lose a pregnancy before 24 weeks, there is currently no legal right to bereavement leave.
I don’t think that’s right.
Losing a pregnancy can be devastating. You and your partner shouldn’t have to worry about going straight back to work.
So we’re changing the law.
From April, women and their partners will be entitled to two weeks off after any pregnancy loss.
And we’re making wider changes, with new rights to time off when you lose someone you love.
When you’re grieving, you deserve the time and space to do that.

My grandfather doesn’t believe in retirement homes. He says they’re too expensive and the food is bad. Instead, he’d rather check into a luxury hotel near the beach.
When we asked him about the cost, he said, “If I stay at a nursing home, it’s $200 a day and no one visits. If I stay at this hotel, it’s $100 a day. I get room service, a pool, and my grandkids visit me every weekend because they want to go to the beach. Plus, if I die in the lobby, the hotel manager will actually be upset.”
At the nursing home, they just call it ‘Tuesday’.
Andrew Garfield reveals he stopped using ChatGPT after playing Sam Altman in the upcoming movie Artificial
“It's the same thing that happened to me when I did The Social Network, which was I got off Facebook immediately”
“I got off my ChatGPT immediately. I don't really know even how to explain why but just the more you know and the more you realize we're careening into some very unknown territory”
“What I suppose is good and transparent is they're like, ‘Yeah, no, we kind of don't know who's going to lose their jobs and how we're going to create an economy that works for ordinary people but we're going to find out and I promise you it's going to be awesome’”

UK prices have genuinely stopped making sense.
A bottle of water can cost you £2+.
A train to London can set you back £150 just to go there and come back.
A 15-minute taxi ride somehow costs £20.
A couple of nights away in Britain can cost more than getting on a plane and leaving the country.
Your car insurance gets more expensive every year for the privilege of owning the same car.
And rent that used to be £600 a month is now pushing £1,000+ like that's completely normal.
Everything keeps getting more expensive while wages barely move.
At what point are we supposed to stop calling this a “cost of living crisis” and just admit we're being absolutely rinsed?
You work, you pay tax, you pay bills, you pay rent, you pay insurance, you pay for transport and somehow you're still left wondering where the fuck all your money went.
This country is becoming unaffordable by design, and we're just expected to shut up, keep paying and pretend it's normal.

Since its foundation in 1824 the bravery of Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteers has saved more than 146,700 lives at sea.
Hundreds of those volunteers have died attempting to save others. They are the best of us.
Any person or organisation questioning their actions or loyalty to this country should be corrected and ostracised.
Anyone can drown, but no one should.

I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

Some high school kids were talking and said “No way Gen X wrote 10-page papers without AI.”
Oh, honey.
We wrote them without reading the book…the night before they were due…by hand and in cursive.
We are not the same.
