David Housel: “Alright, Auburn fans, time for a little perspective… A week ago, all was right with the world, the Tigers were winning and the future looked bright ahead. All smiles, hopes and dreams all about to come true. Now, a week later, it’s “Gloom, despair and agony on me…deep, dark depression, excessive misery. If it weren’t for bad luck, we’d have no luck at all…gloom, despair and agony on me…”. The whole world, especially Birmingham, is out to get us and nobody loves us, that crying in your beer kind of thing. Time to step back and look at the world with a broader, balanced and more realistic perspective. With clear eyes. In July and August, most Auburn fans felt and said that a 7-5 record would be a positive step forward. A step forward in what may be a longer than desired rebuilding process. That 7-5 record is still very much within reach. Ole Miss and Alabama will be favorites over us, perhaps prohibitive favorites, but both, under the right circumstances, are winnable games. That leaves Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Samford, all three very winnable games. Win those three and there we are, 7-5, right at the mark we considered to be a positive step forward before the season started. My point is this: the sky is not falling. As bad as the LSU game was, and it was bad, really bad, the sky is not falling. We are on a long, sometimes painfully slow and bumpy road, a road that we hope will return us to glory. This is not to say that we should be satisfied or pleased with a 7-5 season. No. Never. But it is to say we have to be realistic about where we’ve been, where we are, and where we hope to be going. There will be bumps and bruises along the way, but in the words of the old Gospel song, we’re pressing on the upward way. That’s all we can ask or expect at this point. Perspective, friends, perspective. Time and only time will tell…”
