In October 2012, a skinny 19-year-old walked into Korakuen Hall looking like any other prospect. He left looking like the future.
Naoya Inoue’s pro debut came against the experienced Filipino Crison Omayao, a ranked fighter who had never been stopped. The high-level assignment brought real pressure for a teenager making an A-class debut.
Inoue answered with sharp defence, precise body shots and calm power, dropping Omayao twice before a fourth-round knockout.
Small and lean, he already fought with uncommon skill. After the win he returned to the same disciplined training under his father at Ohashi Gym, the foundation that soon carried him to world titles.
