My take,
The Backrooms is some existential cosmic stomach.
The yellow wallpaper and the fluorescent hum are just the camouflage of a predatory liminal space that makes you curious to wander in it.
It's not data storage, it's data breakdown.
The other reason I think this is there are impossible dates in the documentary.... meaning the date we see never existed, so perhaps that's what we're seeing, a universe eat an error through its liminal system.
George is kinda stupid and that is ok.
